If you want to go low at golden hour, Spruce Dunes Match Club is the place. At par 70 and just 6,500 yards, it won't tax your card. But you'd better be sharp in a match -- there are 18 birdies and six eagles out there in the dunes and the scrub. Some holes of note: Hole 1 is an easily reachable par 5 and a gentle handshake to begin. But the green is maddeningly difficult to hold in two, a possible separator to begin your match. Hole 2 looks wide open, but club selection off the tee can make the difference between birdie and par. Hole 5 -- can you get there in two? And if not, where to lay up? Hole 6: Do you carry onto the green or run it up? It's tough to tell from the tee. Hole 8 is one of the smallest greens but has plenty of contour to engage. Hole 10 is a reachable short 4 in most conditions, but getting in the wrong spot makes par a real prospect. Hole 11 is a longer 5, full of decisions and angles. Holes 12 and 13 are back-to-back short holes demanding precise execution. Hole 16, a long par 3, rewards only the most precise shots. A birdie normally wins here. Hole 17 is about risk, reward and angles. Hole 18 is a long slog with a discerning green and a range of scores to be made.

A good challenge for such a short course. Shot -3 in high wind. Lots of fun.
