Hi all,
I always wanted to work on this one, but the sloppy terrain was really to hard to render accurately. Then, back before the summer, I had the good news that Lidar data was available for some parts of France and, luckily, Evian was in the lands available. So, I gathered the data and generated the course for PGA 2K23.
This was a rather long work to populate the course with trees and objects based on all the videos of each hole available on YouTube. Great variety of trees and and houses is impossible to render without filling the memory of the course. So, I apologize if some of the trees may look odd in regard of the real ones. Houses surrounding the course are also poorly rendered but I hope the general feel is here.
It's also a shame that I have not a good background to fit the magnificent surroundings with the Alps, the Leman lake and Switzerland in the far.
This is a rather short course but with narrow holes, steep slopes and lots of O.B. The greens are well contoured with the slopes always leading to Leman lake. Due to the severe slopes I had to set the green speed to no more than average. If I issue a "Championship" version I may set them faster, but really not too much as the would become unplayable.
All in all, I'm rather satisfied of my first Lidar work and I hope you will feel the pleasure to play on this historic piece of land established since 1904.
Have fun !

After Playing this Course on the EA Game i was really worried how this would play on 2k23 with the physics etc with some of the sloping fairways but there was no need thought it played great and i loved it.Only thing i found was the 2nd hole and the view of the green having never played the course or seen any action i wonder if you can see the green example below is how EA did it,i wonder if they placed the tee 3 feet Higher or just moved the tee forward so you could see the green, again slightly nit-picking for like's of me who play with no Scout cam and after studying a few EA designs not 100% sure they used Lidar on all the courses so in the end just guesswork and maybe camera angles, but again it compares super to EA's version so well done. EA. 2k23

Just finished my round and was about to post exactly about what Yeltzman said above. Overall very very well done. Just the 2nd tee for me. WOuld have loved to see the green. Enjoyed this and hope to see it on tour somewhere. Sloping fairways provide a challenge from the tee. Thanks for designing.

I wonder is there a difference in camera level between EA and 2k?? I don’t have EA so wouldn’t know but I know 2k camera height is more at hip level than eye level. Maybe EA is slightly higher, hence you can see the green?? Idk I’m just waffling here

Essentially at head height but then the camera is obviously positioned 10 to 15ft behind the player so of course you wouldn't see the green but IRL you probably would. And if the view is changed to be slightly higher then again you will see the green. The little compromises playing digital golf !!

The one in EA is clearly nearer to the golfer so you can have the view to the green. I could have put the tees a little forward, but then they would have been on the slope covered by the retaining wall terrain, and I'm not sure of the behaviour of the tee shot in this case. I've experienced no problem but I have to be cautious.

Yep i did post about camera angles i think it's the same with pebble beach lidar in 2k23 i think you can't see the 7th green in 2k23 might be wrong there, but let's not take anything away from this design it's really good and EA's might be wrong as i found out comparing there lidar to mine at the 150th and 151st.
I Wonder if it's possible to get a glimpse of the green with a higher tee or the tee moved forward with the lidar what's there.

Playing on PS it takes one press of a button to change the view to see the green. The lidar EA use is acquired via low flying helicopter. Public access lidar is from a plane much higher up making it less accurate.

Yep EA did their own lidar, it’s super accurate and even picked up the edges of paths etc.
The big issue with St Andrews on the EA game is they missed the path out at back of 17th green, sacrilege!

They also have the 2nd hole at Brookline as a 290 yard par 3 when actually in the US Open they use a forward tee at 190 yards, the members play it as a par 4 off the back tee.
And don’t even get me started on a few of the pins at Southern Hills…

This is absolutely exceptional. Photos don't even come close to how good this course looks in the game. A true Championship course. A tip of my hat to you sir.

Hi,
I see that, as like me, you enjoyed that nasty little sixteen I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of your round. That's not a bomb and target course but , from a golf play perspective, it's really interesting.
