Not Played there but looking at the 2023 Mackenzie & Ebert brochure it seems some changes there Spring 2023 no idea where the bunkers would be on the 7th and a reshaped green on the 16th pictured below if it helps.(Does not look much different if the picture is up to date).

I played there last summer and can't say I recall drastic changes to either 7 or 16... From memory, I think 14 had a bunker added on the left hand side of the fairway, though.

Also a fairly new bunker on the left on 6. Neither show on pro-visualizer; looks like they are there in the 2022 LiDAR data. I've got a strakaline map of the 16th green slopes which is different from the LiDAR data, I'm reckoning those are the 2023 changes so will work towards that. I wonder if those new bunkers on 7 are planned rather than done yet (can't see anything new on recent youtube playthroughs...)? The 5th hole waste bunker areas are doin my nut in, since all the different sources show something slightly different... I have found some pretty recent playthroughs on YouTube so will be poring over those as I enter the final stages.

Ok, went back through my photos - joys of me being an architecture geek is that I have a lot of closeups of bunkers haha. If there's any other holes you need, ask - I took at least one photo on most of the holes. Scrapes on 5 from the tee: There's a bunker way short of the green with room to run the ball on. 7 tee: 14 tee: Some bunker closeups - the shaping and sculpting is really tricky - they are ragged at the top and low-profile, by which I mean they go down quite a bit into the ground rather than flaring up at the greens etc. Pics should do better justice: 1st green: 4 fairway:

Looking at google earth maps dated 3th june 2023,it seems one of them is between the 2 bunkers on the right by the green,The Other i Can't see unless the trees are covering it up on the right shadows middle of fairway side looks like something may be there. When you look at the Open Course Specialists Mackenzie and Ebert 2023 review there changing so many Open courses and qualifying venues it's just impossible to keep up really especially with up to date data so you do the best you can in the End 98% of players will have no idea about the course.

That’s the 8th I think. Looks like google earth is up to date. Looks like a bunker on the 1st has moved!

The frustration I have with M&E is they seemingly always add the faux waste / scrape areas. It was the same with their renovations at Burnham and Berrow. The 5th at Hollinwell is gorgeous in isolation, but similar to 17 at Hoylake, it’s so odd to see a completely different bunkering on just one hole. Burnham is more egregious with the ‘waste’ bunkers alongside the revetted ones.
That aside, I do like the green work they have done at both courses.

100% agree i feel they have spoiled so many classic UK links, but it seems they are the "OPEN" Go to guys and if you don't agree you won't get to hold any events. I am no expert but all this rubbish it's for the environment and wildlife all a bit "meh to me". That new 15th or 17th at Royal Liverpool i don't think went down to well with the members there not sure its worth changing a course so much for one event every 6-7 years plus i used to like the old hole.
also they added those Scrape areas at Royal troon for next years open, looking forward to seeing how they look.
