True Sim Tour NEWSDear TST enthusiast, We have important news to share with you, which will also be communicated to all other TGCTOURS members (by email) in the next few days. As you know (and many of you experienced firsthand), we decided on a custom Legend swing difficulty at the start of season 10 for our True Sim Tour (TST). Some of you loved it, others were less pleased and yet others loved the challenge for a while but then that love slowly disappeared. We understand and appreciate all of these experiences and emotions. As TST admin team, we experienced a bit of all of them ourselves. Based on participation numbers, feedback from players and our own struggles with finding courses and conditions suitable for this swing difficulty combined with no grids, we have now come to the conclusion that a change is needed: - To encourage more players to participate in TST
- To allow us to follow/mimic the 2024 IRL PGA Tour schedule as much as we can, without being restricted by the additional challenges in selecting courses and conditions due to Legend swing difficulty being significantly more punishing (both tee to green and on the greens) than Master
Therefore, on January 1st, before the start of the Tournament of Champions, our True Sim Tour (TST) is moving back to a custom Master swing difficulty (and no grids, obviously) for the remainder of season 10. We fully understand that some of you will love this switch (back) and applaud us for this decision, while others will be rather disappointed. All we can ask is you give it a go as of January – in return, we promise to provide you with beautiful RCRs, fun challenges and tournaments (both courses and conditions) that resemble the tournaments played during the IRL 2024 PGA Tour as much as possible. For those new to TST: please be reminded that you can play this tour alongside our other tours (so you can participate in any of the pro and challenge circuit tours AND TST simultaneously). Click the Join True Sim link under the More Tours tab on our home page to get started. We hope to see many of you join or return to playing as of January 1st 2024, and that the brave souls that were with us for our Legend adventure will continue playing and enjoying TST! Best wishes, Matt and Frans

Thanks for giving it a go Frans. I really enjoyed those few weeks before rl got a bit busy and think you did a great job choosing the courses and set-ups. Have a good Christmas and I'll definitely continue playing when I'm able to drop in.

I shall drop back in from 1st January Frans. Really enjoy the courses on offer in this society, just didn’t like having to change my swing difficulty to play here. I don’t play the game that much nowadays, just the TGCT stuff really, and prefer all my rounds to be on the same swing difficulty.

That is great news.
Legend is okay for the odd round, but it does need to be set-up to give a fair challenge, courses of 7000+ yards really are a bit of a grind on this level. I did play TST at the start of the season but sadly lost interest after a few weeks. Four rounds on Legend is too much.
I am looking forward to 1st January and returning to Master level and enjoying all the great course choices and set-ups.
Cheers

Serious question, Frans, and just asking. With going back to Master swing difficulty, would you consider turning off the aiming marker? Again, just asking. Also, going back to Masters, will there be any changes to rules such as the cutline or required rds played rules?

Thanks for asking; no, we will not remove aim marker and we will have no cut, because we’d like everyone to have the chance to complete four rounds. No bans or anything like that if you don’t finish. What I will do, is explore whether I can create some sort of flight system - probably completely manual and with some assistance from a few here. Currently thinking that it might be nice to at least have a Top Dogs and a Brave Souls flight… 😉

What you have done is show to many how good legend difficulty is, now you expect them to go back to on rails golf to get 20 odd more participants. It's your decision and your tour but you're gonna drive people away to public societies regarding SIM golf. I say this with experience, matt10 your best SIM tour was before you joined TST by an absolute mile, it has lost it's soul to CASUAL since then and since when has SIM golf been casual. I do feel I have wasted too much time here and I never liked the fact that TST never even tried no marker without any explanation as to actually why. Anyway good luck but I won't be participating going forth as it is to me going backwards. It just seems you're more interested in bringing in the all aids casuals than the hardcore SIM enthusiast.

And I do think it's quite ironic that a member of this forum is criticising me for not donating here like it has ever catered for what I was looking for. I would much rather a niche society of people that are really into something than one full of casuals where this is the 2nd tour they play because it's there in TGCTours. Not sure that was ever Matt's vision.

I too will make an attempt to become a more regular participant in TST starting in the new year. I am more excited in the flights aspect than the swing change, hopefully the switch back to Master difficulty will increase the number enough to make flights worthy.
I do enjoy the occasional legend round but 4 in an event is quite taxing.
Onward!

Agree with hammers & fair question from grey osprey, the change is to try and grab a few more players , it's really catering for the casuals should never really be called TST (True Sim Tour ) should be the SST Semi Sim Tour . Nevermind Onwards as Art would say 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for the reactions - happy to hear some of you will give it go and those of you that want to move on: fair enough.
If it turns out to be the wrong decision; blame me, not Matt. I pushed for the original move to Legend and I pushed for the switch back. I hope it will lead to more people playing and more people enjoying TST. Whether they consider themselves purists or casuals doesn’t matter, as long as they have fun.
Best wishes Frans

I'm quite happy to try to help with flights though I have no knowledge of automating things but I can knock up and sort a spreadsheet. I may be a CASUAL but always willing to try to help out. I understand the disappointment of the hardcore players but I see a number of societies out there for those that want to make life as difficult as possible for themselves. I always thought that the whole idea behind being able to play both your own tour and TST was to encourage people to play both.

It's not about making life as difficult as possible it is about a challenge and there were a lot of people enjoying the challenge and not just at the higher part of the leaderboard. A lot of people like legend difficulty regardless of it being SIM or not and there is also the fact that master difficulty is too easy for quite a few here that play TST and WAY too easy on the all aids tours for many people. So stepping back to what was before might excite a few but it will also infuriate a few who were really enjoying TST on legend difficulty because it really was tested their game.

I thought you had your own society that challenges the hardcore players. Sure I’ve seen another society where just about everything is banned and you have to play blindfolded 😉

Well, I do feel bad for the "hardcore" guys who were pushing for the change to Legendary. But add me to the list of players who will come back and play this tour regularly.
I'm more with Ben here, I didn't want to switch between swing types every week. Looking forward to jumping back in next week.
