Dear TST enthusiasts,
For this week’s QCD Shootout, I’m taking you to MacDonald/Raynor’s Old White course at the Greenbrier. A classic design, fully updated in 2017 and a joy to play. Think before hitting, mind your swing plane (that’s a tip to myself) and stay patient. If you do, a nice score is there.

Swing plane shenanigans...  Preceded by tempo shenanigans... With some putting nonsense... Think I ended on +11 in the end...   And to think I thought I was improving... Still think the course was great though!!! |

Are there still bans for making the cut but not finishing 4 rounds? My PC didn't want to load the 3rd round and I've run out of time before heading away for work. Some sort of connection errors but the whole Society set up loads very slow for some reason. Some times worse than others and sometimes never..... Is it server location, my location, PC?  It's all a mystery to me. |

Really like this course. A lot of ways you can attack it, long hitters can be more aggressive off the tee in a lot of spots but the angles don't make it easy. If you're out of position off the tee you've got to think your way to par. And it correctly penalizes really bad misses a lot worse than slightly bad misses, which is something of a missing art from most of the non-RCR courses I play in this game.
I only had one round where I really had the tempo on control but could scrape it around a little under par in the others

Opened +4 (did rally with chirps on the final three holes) and +6 (no rally there but felt more in control).

Question for all: what would you like to play next week: a classic but tricky (read: lots of trees) British course or a wide-open, friendly-for-those-of-us-with-questionable-Legend-swings southern US course?

From a self professed horrible high wind player, either crank them up on a wide open course or keep them mild on a tree filled one.

In that case, friendly conditions at a lovely UK course with plenty trees and smooth greens (specifically prepared for us by the wonderful metatropic) it will be! |
