Located in Okotoks, AB, in the semi-arid, semi-badland valley, The Honourable Dewdney Players Society is majestic. Depicted here in late September, just as the frosts are beginning to turn the leaves of the shrubs hues of yellow and red. Dewdney is a test for the best in the world, as strategically-placed bunkers lure players to take on challenges they ought not to. Some highlights thus far: Hole 3: Driveable par 4 in the right conditions, the bay juts out just enough to scare away the brave. Further, the fairway is extremely rumpled on the green side, potentially sending balls into bad places. Hole 4: An excellent risk-reward drive around a bunker. This hole has been rated least favourite of the members. A long drive over the corner of the bunker somewhat neutralizes the challenge, but the green itself can cause headaches.
On the back side ... Hole 11: Driveable from the Greens, nearly driveable from the Golds, heavy punishment awaits an errant drive that goes for the green. Laying up is probably the best choice here ... Hole 13: The drive here from the Greens is picturesque, as colourful shrubbery sits along the water's edge. Hole 17 has a split fairway that challenges the golfer to face a huge elevation change on either the first of second shot. Depending where the pin is, the bunker to the right of the green has implications on which of these decisions should be made. Off-course goodies include the motocross track that surrounds the edge of the course, winding through the cliffs and climaxing over a massive gorge that overlooks hole 13. Lastly, the obligatory routing map for the course: I'm very excited to release this one (soon!), as I have thoroughly enjoyed creating it, first on 2k21, and now ported over to 2k23. Hope you all enjoyed the preview!
