Hi,
French Lidar begins to have classified maps so we can get started to render some the various courses in the country.
So if you never expect the Spanish Inquisition, expect French courses renditions !
I eagerly awaited this to do Evian Golf Club, but cannot get the data before the Evian Championship event.
Now here is the first attempt at getting the thing. This is a heavy side-hill course. It will be rather impossible to figure the horizon with the Leman lake and Swiss in the background, but I'll try to do my best. Sad that we cannot have true club distances for woman to really enjoy the play there...

Just downloaded some data but it does not seem to be in LAZ files to me,any advice or as per usual i am doing something wrong.

Go here to get to the Point Cloud LiDAR geoservices.ign.fr/lidarhdI used Chrome and made sure it was set to translate French to English - On the right hand side under Access To Products select Classified Data - On the Top Map labeled Classified Data, Zoom in until you find your course, you can click the layer box in the upper right to select a aerial/sat view named Orthoimage - Keep zooming in and you will see the tiles you can download and they are in .Laz filetype Thanks Doume6307 for the heads up on this LiDAR source |

I was checking out a few on Top 100, there are some interesting ones but like most UK courses they are pretty short. Check this out, Fontainebleau Golf Club (est 1909) is ranked #4 but what is really interesting is the one elevated part of the course (bottom Right) has 6 holes starting and ending there a 'la Donald Ross at Seminole (est 1929) but 20 years earlier. Just got the layout of the Ryder Cup Course into the designer will be interesting to look at the data.

Just to refresh some enthusiasms, the whole France is not yet covered but it goes rather fast. However, you have west of Paris with most of the posh courses of the area : St-Nom, Fourqueux, Joyenval, etc. and the north with Chantilly and Morfontaine notably...

Got to say the green detail looks spot on very impressive Lidar in my view..... Doume6307 BaconJunkie1 Great Topic for a person like me this will have to look at a list of good french courses.It seems there is a Le Golf National in game will have to check it out in game.  |

yeltzman that appears to some pretty clean LiDAR too, with the Sun's position it would be showing crosshatch patterns and abnormality lines if they were there and I don't see any ... Hopefully the rest is this good too. I'm curious and if you remember, how many KBs was it raw?

In 2k23 it's 3,819kb file size if that's what's your asking.
The terrain around the 2nd does not seem correct looking at it a little corrupted compared to a view i have seen online but overall i think its very good.
