And here we are, the time of broken dreams, shattered controllers and for one person, the glory of being crowned Kinetic Champion 2023. Like the previous few years, there will just be on thread for the play offs, in the past, this was to allow me to fully focus on the next season ahead, this year, well we will see. Anyway, welcome to the play offs and for the next 2 weeks, the cut line has never been so important, for some it is the only way the will progress to the next week. For others, they have the safety net of the the money list, for all, the next two weeks is about making it to the to the Tour Championship week. We have three courses that vary in difficulty, that differ in style, that bring different challenges in some areas and to become Kinetic champion, they will test all areas of your game.
First up is Clementon trail by cg444. Chris is a long time member of the Kinetic tour, having played over 30 events on this tour this season. This means he does not have to worry about missing the cut on his own course, as he is 10th on kinetic money list and with the top 50 in the money list automatically entered into week 2. For Chris, staying in the top 10 these next 2 weeks has got to be the goal as that would grant him entry into the final itself, so there is still all to play for and of course there is the possible embarrassment of missing the cut on his own course. Clementon Trail is the easiest of the 3 courses which ironically makes it the hardest cut to make, so while the first 2 rounds here might play easier than the other weeks, in reality they are the hardest 2 rounds of the play offs as there is very little room for error, mistakes here are punished heavily on the leader board and you will need to be on top of your game to move on to week 2.
Week two sees us visit Hillcounty Clay by jwtexan. Wes is a ex scheduler on tgctours and like most people that have given that role a try, has suffered a nervous breakdown after reading threads on his picks. He now resides in the tgctours funded Asylum for Ex-Schedulers where he receives nothing but the best treatment money can buy. I asked Wes would he like to do the setting for this week for old times sake, unfortunately this left him curled in a ball of his padded room mumbling to himself phrases such as " it played fine during testing", " Oh my God, they all hate me" and " I thought very fast would work". I am sure he will recover, in time. This course would be a more typical kinetic course with the first 2 rounds set up on the more difficult side of things. With limited spots available in the final itself, it is crucial for players to make the cut, to do this, players need to be smart with how they deal with these first 2 rounds.
The Final itself will be played at Maxwell Plantation by gamesdecent. A person whos forums name changes so often, there are rumors are he is multiple people. The truth is, he is just the one person will multiple personality disorder, so it should come as no surprise to you all that that is exactly how this course plays, there are multiple ways to approach each hole, some good, some not so good, and some downright evil. It is one of the hardest courses this season on kinetic, and yet, find the good personality, execute that right shot and the birdies are there, get it wrong, and the evil personality will rare its ugly head not just to punish you but to stomp on you when you are down and with no cut-line, it is something you will have to deal with for all 4 rounds.. It is pretty simply a Brian Petty course.
One thing all three courses have in common is course management, to progress this is a most, hitting the ball straight is no good when you hit to to the wrong side of the fairway, aiming for the pin may not always be the right shot, it is up to you when to decided to play safe, when to lay up and when to go for it, something that will come into play all three weeks. There will be ups and downs for everyone, how you deal with this, will decide if you are good enough to reach the top for Kinetic 2023. Good luck everyone, have fun out there and I look forward to seeing which one of you will overcome these challenges to become the newest Kinetic champion.
