hello, Im trying to make a macraynor style course but I'm really having trouble with the bunkers. The bunkers I am choosing to use are more NGLA inspired and therefore the bunkers aren't just geometric shapes. My first problem is that whenever I use the flattening tool, the bunker gets sunk deep into the ground. Furthermore, if I am flattening just part of a bunker, I cant get the other areas of the bunker to be the same height as the area I just flattened. Lastly, I can't get rid of the auto generated lip. Does anyone have any advice on how to make a a flat bunker?

Yeah, you have to manually sculpt as flatten will just lower the bunker texture. Bunkers are generally the biggest learning curve for beginners and this is arguably the most technically challenging bunker style. If you are just starting out, it may be better for your sanity to save these for a later course. I love them, but they take forever…
It’s a couple of years old now, but this still hasn’t really changed. Be warned, they are verrrry time consuming! N.B. Video says pots but it’s the same technique.

joshtheberg sounds like an interesting project, looking forward to see it. Ben's video explains the process greatly, they are a pain to do and even more so if they are from a LiDAR, they turn onto gangly cavernous ditches and have to be totally redone. You mentioned NGLA, this gentleman plays courses and blogs his round so to speak photo blogs them. His work helped me immensely on a soon to be publish project, tons of pictures and info. I hope this helps and hurry up with your project Tiger Golf Traveler at NGLA

Thanks for all the help. The course I'm designing is taking place in the Lowcountry and I am mimicking courses such as Yeamans and country club of Charleston. Instead of using the bunkers typically found in Raynor-style courses in the Lowcountry,(which are very sharp and geometric), I want the bunkers to have a bit more fluidity.

Josh you so have my interest peaked now!!! LOL I'm so wanting to spill the beans but I think you'll be interested in a project of mine, it's close but I wasn't happy with my bunkers and am making them even flatter after seeing Ben's video and checking some pictures from that other website. Hey I'll help you with some 2k23 bunker math. If you need/want to use the flattening brush in a bunker and if it is set to 0", it will drop 1'6" so if you need to raise the bottom 4", set the brush to 1'10". It's a process, the more you work with them, the better you will be. One more reference site, the photos are pretty dated (2010) .... What Yeamans Hall again?!?!?!? Hit the link at the top of that page, there are beaucoup more courses with tons of photos. myphillygolf.com/uploads/bausch/YeamansHall/index.html
