I'm currently working on a course between a pair of rivers and after laying down the holes, I have an area in the middle of four holes that is, for lack of a better word, a hole. If golf courses had 22 holes, I could easily lay down for par-4s in the area. Do I worry about it? Do I fill it in with trees? An artificial lake? Due to the nature of the course, putting buildings in their is not an option.

A open space that large will probably stick out a bit if left untouched.

Probably trees most likely. A good lesson though - this is something you'd want to pick up on whilst routing the course and have an idea of your planting as you draft the hole ideas.

Instead of a lake what about a massive mountain-esque rock hill thingy ala a Devils Peak?
