ProMotion, demotion clarification

Really enjoying the tgc tours. It’s a fantastically run competition.

Massive thanks to everyone involved in running it.

The only thing I’m not really clear about is the promotion and demotion marks. I can’t seem to get my head around it.

So I’m in CC-K…..

On the positive mindset side…. What would I have to do in order to gain a promotion checkmark?

It’s nice to know this, as then when I’m playing I can adjust accordingly. Take risks, play it safe etc.

And how many of the check marks would I need for promotion?

Lastly is demotion just the same but in reverse?

You need 3 promo marks to go up and 5 demo marks to go down. In the challenge circuit, winning your tier gets you automatically promoted. Promotion and demotion marks are given up  on a percentage of the playing field. I think it’s,

Top 7.5% gets 2 promo marks
Top 15% gets 1 promo mark
Bottom 20% gets 1 demo marks
Bottom 10% gets 2  demo marks

If you have a demo marks and make the cut the next week, one demo mark is removed, possibly 2 depending on how high you finish. If you have promotion marks and miss a cut, that promo mark is removed. 6 times a year there are promotion events, these are open to all players except platinum players. If you play well enough you can jump multiple tiers, in theory you can go from cc-k to the platinum tour. There is no cut in theses events and no demo marks given out, so there is nothing to lose by playing them. The next one is the first week of July, and it’s will be played on the special events society.

So I got a demo mark last week I believe, and now looking at finishing 6th. Shows possible 3 promo marks? How’s that work?

If you have a demo mark and make the cut you get a promo mark that clears that, the other 2 promo marks then are for being in 6th, so you will end up with 2 promo marks. It also works the other way, if you have a promo mark and miss the cut, you would get a demo mark to clear that.
