I currently have 156 hours in this game. I have yet to break par.
Here's where my game stands
Off The Tee- Improved but inconsistent. Even with timing at 100, I'll have a few perfect or near perfect shots and then I'll have a very fast or very slow drive that ends up leaving me somewhere really bad and I end up with a double or even triple bogey for the hole. I'll have 2 or 3 of these a round. That's a good 6 to 8 over par for these holes just because of my tee shots.
Mid Range Game - Timing for woods and irons around 80 so not nearly as good. So my mid range game is poor to fair. Sometimes I'll have a good shot but they are rare. Having to hit out of the rough or sand 6 to 8 holes a game doesn't help.
Short Game - One of the two things that saves me some strokes. Around the green I have a highlight reel that is quite impressive. Have saved many bogeys because of this. Unfortunately, I rarely birdie because of the poor shots leading up to my short pitches and chips onto the green.
Putting - Probably the best part of my game but not perfect. I'll still leave a thirty foot putt 1 or 2 feet short or long. Most short putts are in though.
I have to build up my timing on my mid range game. I also need to get some power from somewhere because even on my perfect shots I'm hitting 275 off the tee and 241 with a 3 wood. The long holes kill me.

I have similar instances where a very fast off the tee will give me a Double or Triple bogey and unless I compose this then turns into 3 or 4 holes of bogeys or worse after that.
Recently I’ve had a theory that I MUST birdie the par 5s. This gives me usually -4 to negate some of the rest. It’s going ok but need to still stay calm

I just want to minimize my 3+ putt holes because I've always hated those. I've given up on the concept of ever hoping to get perfect on any shot and just getting consistently fast instead. As long as I'm consistent on something that isn't too wild I can compensate for it much easier. Approach shots I'm getting the distance judgement down a bit better, so my GIR has improved but I'm not often very close to the hole which leads to more 3+ putt holes, which I've always hated.
Should probably play more to level up and then pay attention to the skill points and fittings but I just don't want to take the time for that. I'm only level 17 or 18 or something like that and I know I have unused skill points and better fittings. I'm just too lazy.
I've also noticed old friend pp31 on the Q-school leaderboards. It'd be cool to get him in here as well. Back in the original TGC days while working my way up through the ranks the two other players I most followed as they were both a step or two ahead of me in the journey were pp31 and wagtunes. Be kind of cool to do the same thing again with the same people. And a couple new ones if anyone else joins in like Oscar has.

Given that you're only level 17 or 18 and very few fittings, you'll far surpass me. I'm maxed out on levels and don't have very many fittings left to get and that's if I can even get the ones I want. The process is painful at best.

Turns out I’m actually level 19. Had 12 skill points unused and a handful of fittings I could upgrade. Just hoping it doesn’t mess with things too much since I was getting used to things the way they were.

I’m not sure what level I am but I think I’ve used the fittings I can. Don’t for one second think I know how to use them though. No idea at all.

There's nothing for you to know. Just keep upgrading and you'll start to notice your scores improving. Takes a long time though.

I should have been clearer, I understand they just work but I mean I don’t understand their benefits. For example I think Swing path is one, does it mean I won’t be as sh%$ at my swing line?

I should have been clearer, I understand they just work but I mean I don’t understand their benefits. For example I think Swing path is one, does it mean I won’t be as sh%$ at my swing line? Pretty much, yes. 2 cent tour Power - How far the shot goes Timing - How easy it is to hit a perfect shot Swing Path - How easy it is to hit the ball straight Transition - How easy it is to find that sweet power spot on the downswing Shaping - How easy it is to control fade, draw, spin, etc Lie Range - The higher the number the lower the range difference. Makes it easy to compute distance of shot That's pretty much it. Some of these work together with each other. For example, no matter how good your timing is, if your swing path is really bad, you'll still hit a lot of shots left or right. Conversely, if timing sucks but your swing path is excellent, your shots won't stray that much right or left. Personally, I think swing path is more important because my timing on my driver is 100 and yet my shots still go all over the place because my swing path is like 66 Hope this helps.

I’ve been throwing everything in timing since I can’t hit perfect shots and would really like to see some occasionally. So far it hasn’t mattered. My swing path was all over the place but I switched from using the right thumb stick like I always have to the left thumb stick and I can do near straight now.

Okay, finished my 4 rounds
86 81 79 82
So I'm a good 7 to 10 strokes per round better than last week.
The 86 was because the first time I tackled 13, I overshot the green and ended up at the bottom of the mountain. Once you end up down there, there's no getting to the green. That's a bad hole but whatever. I was more careful the next 3 rounds. But round 1 I maxed strokes on that hole.
Anyway, see you all again next week as I give this another go.

Those scores are certainly looking better. I'll take note of the 13th. I know I always forgot to do this back in the day but is there still the option to take an unplayable and get a drop elsewhere? Not sure why I'm asking since its not like I'd remember to use it anyway.

That was the most boring round of golf I’ve played in years and it was amazing. Not boring because of the course but boring because I did absolutely nothing spectacular or stupid. Started with my traditional +3 after a couple holes but then rattled off three birdies in the next five holes to get back to even. One of those was a close approach for a tap-in birdie. The next one was a 30+ foot putt for birdie. Bogeys on 8 and 9 left me +2 through nine. Tee shot on 8 was particularly annoying as it was the only one I hit all day that wasn’t fast. Stupid thing was perfect so it didn’t curve as expected and ended up down the hill. Horrible that my worst tee shot of the whole round was the only one I hit perfect.
Back nine I birdied hold 16. That’s it. That’s the only thing that happened other than 8 pars. At this point I after being +3 after two holes to finish the round at +1 is beyond amazing for me.
