Well it’s about that time. USA vs The World for three weeks of high stakes, sweaty palms, and pressure packed shots for the claim to the Band of Brothers Ryder Cup. Most of you who have been around since the CUCC days and know the premise of how this works. For those that are new or who need a refresher, here we go.
Date:
• Ryder Cup first week be open to play starting around 3/18. Each session needs to get completed in a week or less.
Course:
• One in mind but I am hoping something else may come about in the next week or so.
Format:
• Session 1 will be fourball and alternate shot (4 matches each) playing at the same time. ALL MATCHES ARE TO BE PLAYED LIVE, MIC’D UP, AND STREAMED
• Session 2 will be the same as week one. ALL MATCHES ARE TO BE PLAYED LIVE, MIC’D UP, AND STREAMED
• Session 3 will be singles play with a minimum of 12 players from each side (it’s TDB if all players chosen will play in singles). ALL MATCHES ARE TO BE PLAYED LIVE, MIC’D UP, AND STREAMED
Captains:
• Jamie Gale (giraffe72) Team World
• David Andrews (rhino4life) Team USA
Players:
• In an effort to give more people a chance to play, each team could consist of up to 16 players.
• Up to 8 eligible players for each team will be automatic selections to the team based on their performance from two Ryder Cup Qualifier Events.
• The balance of the team will be chosen by the captain of each team.
How to be considered eligible for this event:
• Each person must be actively playing in the BoB society.
• Each person must play in the Ryder Cup Qualifiers.
The above was the easy part. Below is more important.
• Each person must be able to play live matches on stream with a mic. There is no exception to this.
• Each person must be flexible in start times for matches. There is large gap in time zones so do your best to accommodate one another even if it’s a time that is not perfect for you.
• Each person must have open ease of communication between captain/player as well as with other teammates for setting up matches. Above all else, availability and ease of communication means more to the success of this event that your scoring ability when being selected for the team.
Ryder Cup Qualifiers:
• Week 7 - Golden Acres by Koopdaville (2/28 to 3/7)
• Week 8 - Hightown Golf Links by Stowey (3/7 - 3/14)
Captain Stuff:
• Teams will be announced by the captain’s shortly after the qualifiers have been completed.
• The first Fourball and Alt+Shot matchups will be announced the following day by the captains for session 1.
We will not be announcing all the matchups for the entire event at the very beginning as its been done in years past.
• Each additional session will be announced as the current session moves towards completion.
Common sense stuff:
• You must use all of the rules that apply in BoB since this is outside society.
• No magic balls.
• Your individual settings need to be the same as BoB/Tours. The society settings are on the first page of the Band of Brothers forum in case for some reason you are playing with something different.
Communication stuff:
• Obviously the BoB thread or the sub-thread for the Ryder Cup is the preferred form of communication. We all can see this. Private messages in TGCT or Xbox messages are the acceptable. If for some reason you Be sure to communicate any set times and dates to your captains if you do not use the forum.
• Communication will need to move quickly during the 3 weeks of the event and some matches may take two or three “give and takes” between participants to get everyone on the same page to an agreed time. Don’t be that guy who goes days without responding.
Questions people may ask stuff:
• Each session hopefully does not last more than a week. If a session gets completely scheduled to play in four days, we can immediately move onto announcing and scheduling the next session.
• Sessions 1 and 2 do not need to be played in any certain order (all fourball first, and alternate shot second or vice versa). When the four people involved have agreed to a time, book it and make everyone aware who may be streaming the match.
• There could be a chance that some people (stronger players) will be picked to play both formats in session 1 and session 2. Keep that in mind. If this is something you may not be able to freely commit to, please communicate this with your captain.
• If there happens to be any issues getting a match setup for any reason please communicate with your captains.
• If a match gets disconnected because a player was dropped….please reset the match to the existing score and last completed hole. Once you reach this point, resume the live match play as normal. Hopefully this does not happen too often.
Just to circle back around to this: As mentioned before communication and availability are held in the highest regard for this important event. Keep this in mind when wanting to play in this event.
With that said.....good luck.
