Do I want to hit in the middle of the vibration? Just after it stops? It seems so random because putting has such a small vibration window, but chipping vibrates almost the entire swing. Driving vibration starts about 2/3 of the way up.
I can push forward just a hair after the vibration stops and go 20' past the hole. But if I'm just a hair before, I come up 20' short.
What's the deal?

It’s about feel is suppose. I never move the distance the arrow but many people do. I kind of know where to go for flat, downhill and uphill. Speed of the greens demands a bit more caution or bit more aggression. It’s not a perfect science but I tend to have 3 rough guides. Always a couple of practice pull backs to feel the mark. Downhill (right at the start of the vibration but I’m pushing forwards before it gets there just to brush it). Flat (bang in the middle - a fraction more or less depending on the speed), uphill (give it a bit more welly - so after the middle of the vibration).
It’s hard to explain something that is done largely by feel. And as with all of the game, practice and find what works for you.

I’ve never tried turning it off but think I’d be spraying it all over the place without it!

Yessir! I'm not gonna put on my Amway hat and try to sell you on it's a more satisfying way to play but for me it's easier than anticipating when that buzzer is gonna go off and time my swing accordingly. Play a few rounds with it off and you'll get it.

I'd say just get comfortable moving the cursor forward and back when you're around the greens or putting. I bring it back a decent amount if the putt is downhill (or downhill beyond the hole), and leave it where it is for the uphill putts.
I try to release it when I first feel the vibration. Think you just need to pick one method and then start adjusting your marker accordingly.
Or you can learn to play without it, as noted above. That transition is probably fairly easy on your full shots, but it is more difficult around the greens and putting. And don't give in to the peer pressure, if you like using the vibration, use the vibration. I can't imagine anything more tedious than having to take five practice putts every single time to find the perfect percentage - but your mileage may vary.

The only way, is to constantly put the hours into the game and get YOUR feel for it. And the other issue is that you're going to have to figure out the differences between the feel of the driver, irons, partials, pitch shots, splash shots and chips. I can explain what I do but I doubt that it will help you because it's different for each individual, platform and controller. When I want 102% power it's a completely different look and feel compared to 100% power. Many times, when I chip, I look for more backswing and strong vibration. When I hit my irons, I look for a quicker swing and less vibration. You're not only going to have to get a feel for the different vibrations with different shots but also you need to combine your eye hand coordination when you're looking at your golfer or club head. It took me 3 months to understand what I was doing and that was all through trial and error. I can go on and on about this but you're not only going to have to work all this out but you're going to have to figure out what stats you like on your fittings. I run higher timing and swing path that are in the 90 to 95 range because that's what works best for me. You might be different.

I’ve never tried turning it off but think I’d be spraying it all over the place without it! It completely changes the game and takes some time to get used to. I play with it on but I play in that Ultra Sim Society and they have a rule against vibration. So I play that tournament with no vibration. The swings are usually the same. The big difference is the putting. I barely pull the stick back to putt the ball 20 feet. When I putt with vibration, I pull the stick back much further. IMO turning vibration off, definitely makes the game harder, if you aren't used to it or comfortable with it off. But like anything else, you just need time and practice, to get better at it.

If you're insinuating I'm taking even 1 practice putt let alone 5 without vibration, sir, you are grossly mistaken. And I agree, play how you want. I know I get weary eared hearing about no grids. I've played that way and I can tell ya I've worm cammed and whirling dervished around the hole for a solid minute on a 3 foot putt only to have it break the opposite way. No thanks, I'm oldish. Gots no time. The thing about no vibration is different IMO. Once you've locked on to the timing it is rote be it a short putt or a 75 foot plus putt with the appropriate allowances for green speed and elevation. Sure, I'll ham thumb or drunk digit one but for the most part I've left myself an easy shorty or a tap in. Once again, I have no problem with folks using vibe. I can't. It throws me off. OP may wanna give no vibration a solid chance. and I'm on Xbox so that may make a difference.

Oh, definitely not speaking to you specifically Owen, just from watching various Twitch streams. Those rounds can get loooong.

One thing I recently figured out is that when you are putting go nice and slow and when you barely feel the vibration go forward with your putt. Seems to be working better for me as I was going past the vibration too many times and too much. Babying the putt seems to work better for me but like I say this is all personal preference. You have to get out there and figure it out for yourself.
