I'm 4 holes into this now and have made a promise to myself to actually release a NEW course on 2k23 although you could argue St Enodoc and West Hill were basically new courses as completely replanted. Anyway, have some WIP pics; Whilst the LiDAR data is very recent, the game doesn't render some of the sharp slopes very well, particularly the grass pot bunkers. I'm going through them with my sharp edge brush to create some definition and to make them the hazard they really are IRL

You can also see from the last two pictures that pin 4 on the 4th hole is going to be an absolute !%$# of pin. The course is 6300 yards so you're going to get some of these!

Oh man, that second tee shot reminds me of the 11th hole at a course in Rockland County, NY called Spook Rock. Narrow, downhill, blind tee shot. Love it.

They are missing a real opportunity by not providing Lidar as an option within the course designer. Imagine how many real courses we'd have right now if Lidar was just part of the designer?

Would be great but I think they’re then seen to be encouraging us to build courses we aren’t perhaps supposed to, they’ve had major issue with Augusta etc

paddyjk19, this looks wonderful as usual. Are the grass hollows or bunkers part of the natural landscape and this is why the green sites are strategically placed as they are ?? I don't know much about this course but am intrigued. Cheers

Cheers From what I know the green sights apart from a couple of two tiered greens (8, 16,17) are all natural but the grass “pots” as they call them were just dug out and sculpted, some are natural.. Park Junior also built certain mounds like you’ll find on the 7th. The tree areas are a little overgrown and I’m sure the greens have lost some surface area over the years. I’ll do a publish with the true RCR but I’m really tempted to do a Gil Hanse job on this at some point for a bit of an experiment

Those greenside grass 'pots' look like far more of a hazard than a sand trap. Are you going to be able to recreate those 'sharp' edges in the design tool ?? Looking forward to this. A Gil Hanse resto sounds like a wonderful idea. Great stuff Paddy!

It’s a real challenge to get the sharpness as the LiDAR data is 0.50m so doesn’t render very sharp and the unity engine doesn’t do vertical edges with designer tool set. Instead I’m using as sharp as brush as possible to make them a bit deeper and then trying to create definition around the edges by raising the edges. It’s working out well so far, they’re framed very nicely although you can obviously chip out of them instead of flop. Whether they play as hard in game as IRL not too sure but there’s around 6 or so greens that are going to be very brutal even at 147 green speed so there will be a challenge

Only managed to play this course the once, in extremely foggy weather (so the lighting is perfect haha), but it was an absolute blast. Look forward to following along.

I’ve only played it in winter which is probably why I think some tree removal could unlock some great vistas! For some reason my photos seem to post a bit washed out, doesn’t look anything like the vibrancy on my monitor, which is weird! Might be because I’m using HDR and the screenshots default to SD
