playing against a friend

Sorry if this post belongs somewhere else, but i know i'll get some good answers here.
So, my buddy and I used to play against each other on PGA 2k21. I used to get onto the tee and 
he would  wait for "manage party" and off we'd go. 

Since buying PGA 2K23, we tried our first game together this morning. He never received a "manage party" notification, I 
could see that he was online, but he could not see me. I did a little looking around and it looked to me like it me be possibly 
only by a monthly subscription to the PS Network which I'm not going to do. 

Anyone know how we can play a round without a subscribing or is it not possible.

Are you taking about society games or just casual games?

Casual games, you just start a private match. Press square and your friends are there to invite, as long as they are online. I do have a PS sub though and my mates do too.

 i am talking about a casual game. I tried to start a private match and it asked me to pay a subscription. I'll try again, thank you.

Unfortunately live play requires a subscription on consoles.
Not on PC though.
