I'm trying an expansive coastal holiday resort with three courses on it. Going for a sort of Spanish/ Portuguese resort vibe, with each course hopefully distinct from the others. It originally started life without much direction, but this plot and project has grown on me. I have around 9 holes left to surface, and a lot of planting to do, despite being at 58% meter already (although the clubhouse uses almost 10% on its own!). I'm making this thread hopefully to keep myself motivated as much as anything, but would love to hear some feedback and know people's thoughts, as I'm my own biggest critic and never quite know what to make of my work. Thanks, enjoy!
The layout of the resort (minus a few unsurfaced holes in the south of the image). You may be able to pick out the river that runs through the middle of the resort, more or less dividing the first two courses (Dunes, south of the river, and Cliffs, north). The third course (Town) runs along side the main road and town before turning towards the coast and back in.
Dunes is a par 70 course, two loops of nine returning to the clubhouse. As the name implies, the sand dunes play a big part in the course, with lots of sandy waste areas and a linksy layout, loosely inspired by Comporta Dunes and some Tara Iti.
The view from the first.
The blind tee shot of the 4th, with only the tree in the distance as a guide.
18th tee shot, heading home towards the clubhouse.
Cliffs is a par 72 layout, heading out to the tip of the rocks and turning around to come back. It takes more inspiration from Pebble Beach in places, although a lot of the hole ideas are taken from classic British links courses, such as Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports.
The tee of the par 4 7th, with the driveable 6th green on the right and the Dunes course across the river.
The par 3 10th hole, the furthest point from the clubhouse.
Town is a par 71, slightly quirkier layout. The majority of the course is set back from the coast, on flatter land. The front nine rushes out to the sea beyond the Dunes course before turning back, while the back nine is tucked into a small parcel of land between town and the resort area. The holes take from St Andrews as much as anywhere.
The long par 5 13th, with the double green of 12 and 15 in view.
An unfinished view of the par 3 3rd hole, looking back to the clubhouse across much of the Dunes course.
