The Legend of Ole Doom and Gloomy (TGCT Anthem) - Music By Gordon Lightfoot from the song "The Edmund Fitzgerald", Lyrics by Shawn O'Brian
**Verse One**
The legend lives on,
from Canada on down,
of a big course they call,
Doom and Gloomy,
The course it is said,
never gives up her dead,
when the storms from the west
come early.
With a load of a score,
8000 yards or more,
the course they say
scored heavy,
that Pro player crew
was a bone to be chewed
when the westward wind came early.
The course was the Pride,
of the American side,
playing back from a time,
long forgotten.
As tough courses go,
It was tougher than most,
with a fairway and greens,
well seasoned.
Concluding some terms
with the Tournament firm,
the players tee'd off
that evenin'
then later that round,
came a tell tell sound,
could it be the west wind their feelin'?
***Instrumental***
**Verse Two**
The wind on the flags,
made a tattle-tale sound,
when the shots
sailed way out from expected
and every player new,
as the director did too,
that tameing that course,
had ended.
The 10th came late,
and dinner had to wait,
When the gales from the west,
came slashin'.
when afternoon came,
it was pourin' rain,
in the face of the,
Gloomys West Wind.
***Instrumental***
**Verse Three**
When the 17th came, the Tournament Director
came on scene,
Sayin' "Fellas its too rough to play ya"
at 4pm a storm cell rolled in,
He said "Fellas its over for all ya"
The Director called in,
"I got lightning comin' in",
and the Pro player crew shook truly,
and later that night,
with no players in sight,
came the Legend of Ole Doom and Gloomy.
***Instrumental***
**Verse Four**
Does anyone know,
where the Golf Gods go,
when the lightning turns minutes into hours?,
The searches all said they would have finished that day,
if that course woulda been just a little shorter,
They might have been struck,
or they might have blown away,
they may have been thrown in the water,
and all that remains is the golfrs names,
and their wives and their sons and their duaghters.
***Instramental***
**Verse Five**
The doomed golfers roll, and the wind still rings,
on the fairways of her glorious mansion,
Doom and Gloomy steams, with new players dreams,
This course was built just for sportsmen.
And its greens are below,
with much borrow,
taking whatever the golfers will send her,
and the scores will go,
as the old pros all know,
with the legend of Ole Gloomy remembered!
***Instrumental***
**Verse 6**
In a musty ole hall,
in St. Augustine they prayed,
in the Golfers hall of fame,
The bell it chimed at least 49 times,
for each man on the Ole Doom and Gloomy,
The legend lives on,
from Canada on down,
of a big course they call,
Doom and Gloomy,
The course it is said,
never gives up her dead,
when the storms from the west
