It has been a week or so now and I really don't want this to be a negative post. I have used the Designer since TGC1 and plan on making several courses in 2K23, including several ports. With that said, I must outline my feedback and thoughts. No one may care, but I am hoping this is seen by HB, the designers in the community and those who play the game for their feedback as well.
Pros
- New Interface - It's good and it moves rather quickly
- Spline Tool - It helps to see everything with widths and I like the ability to adjust on the go
- Wall/Fence Spline - Nice addition and much needed. This will help tons of designers
- Trees - Much better, but disappointed in the lack of updating on certain types of trees
Cons- Customization - This is my biggest gripe. There are no new textures, tees, pins, flags, barely any trees/plants and this really hurts the longevity of the designer. If there is no update in this department, designers will stop creating courses. How can there only be 5 color tees? The same flags? No pins? How about textures of water? I understand Unity has limitations with water planes, but what about colors? These types of updates are absolutely needed and considering the last installment being two years ago, this one really stings
- Objects - There really needs to be some kind of custom builder in the game. Ie. Planet Coaster, there needs to be a way to create custom buildings and structures. Designers are really missing this customization and with barely anything new in 2K23, designers aren't going to put forth an effort
- Themes - Specifically this applies to backgrounds. Again, it's about Customization, there needs to be additions here to help create different environments
A lot of this has already been suggested and said by the community, but one other thing I just don't understand is the omission of Tiger Woods. Tiger's place in the game is confusing, but beyond that, how did they miss the opportunity with TGR, his design company? How about including Payne's Valley, The Hay, BlueJack National and others? How about incorporating his name and ideas in the designer like previously done with Greg Norman? This feels like a missed opportunity and maybe there is a reason, but right now it just feels like the designer was completely ignored and it sucks.

Definitely with you on this stuff. Hopefully I'm not saying this in vain, but imagine HB/2K will give a designer update once they get the bugs and glitches in the game under control.
I would like:
-At least two new themes, or, failing that, new backgrounds for the existing themes -New buildings - churches, barns, and clubhouses -Some new tees, flags, and textures - specifically some new brown-ish or burnt rough looking ones
Overall, I like the work flow in the designer. There does seem to be too many clicks required for some functions (like moving spline points) but I'm slowly getting the hang of it.

No doubt about the amount of clicking, but once the adjustment is made, it functions well. I tend to think 2k/HB will have an update and support, which is why I am hoping this thread is more for a constructive space for us to give some ideas.

You used to be able to lift things using page up/page down on the keyboard. Gone from the new designer.

I'm thinking about getting into the design process in the future. A few thoughts:
—Allow users to submit asset packs for upload/use by the community. —Allow users to submit their own assets, but they must be approved by HB.
I think this might add to the longevity and interest of designers over the long term.

Some new houses would be nice. Perhaps some that are of different character than the ones we currently have.
Church and barns would be cool as well.

Birds still need to be allowed to rise and lower, along with other critters. Camera towers/platforms are still unmanned. Deleting of placed objects is now a myriad of dauntless decisions... both good/and bad ... The GOOD: You can find the item you want to delete with less hassle. No more searching the area with the cursor with constant frustration on highlighting an object 5 times before you can delete it. The BAD: It takes more steps, which in turn adds time to the task. Total pain in a major overhaul/update. Eye Candy is lacking but the improvements under the hood are appreciated very much. The only other possible downfall that came with this new editor is the cost of import. Meaning if your course was object meter ladened on your 2k21 course, 90% or greater, you will probably need to remove something before it will publish in 2K23. In the case of Lidar Courses, it's almost going to be a guaranteed ordeal. Cypress Point 93539 and Spanos Park, ported in at 137% and 150% full on the object meter. Not sure what my plan of attack is going to be, but I have several working copies, working on a reduction that will not totally undo every improvement I made in '21.

Gosh, I loved that designer all the way back to when it was in PGA2000. Honesly, I don't see it happening with this game because it leaves out the console folk and that is the main target audience for the game. If they could make the user-built textures and objects available for anyone to use, a la TW08 and back, that would be super cool, but I can't see that as something 2K would be into.

So you can play test your unpublished courses. I've tested this on PC only, but feedback is that it isn't available on PS5 - yet.
Local Match --> New Match --> Select Course --> Left Button (Filter) --> Go all the way to the bottom, Unpublished) --> Select your unpublished course and away you go!

We console users can browse the web to find Unreal-compatible objects we'd like to use & submit them, if there were such a system.
I assume it would have to be it's own 'thing', not an in-game option. Not totally left out.
Plus, most of us do PC stuff as well, even if it's not our TGC playing system.

I would love to see building "panels" of various shapes and sizes that can be linked together to create any number of buildings. In addition, the panels can be skinned with different colors(paint), textures - corrugated metal, weathered wood, brick, etc.
Then, have a number of window and door types that can be attached.
There would be no shortage of unique buildings being created in the game.

Moved a couple of courses over yesterday but they are different yardages from the 21 courses by a thousand odd yards. I cant figure out why?
