Hi guys,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, and if there's already a thread on this elsewhere please point me in the right direction.
Has anyone used the designer in the new game yet? If so, it would be great to get a run-down on any changes / improvements noted regarding how the designer operates. I have read a bit about gameplay changes (the ball / green speed issue doesn't sound great), but those are covered in other threads.
Splining walls and fences sounds excellent, does that work well?
I read that the menu / asset selection is easier / faster - is that true? For me specifically regarding PS4, but please comment about any system used.
Any new assets / textures / themes?
Any other minor or significant changes?
Thanks guys.

There’s less object meter for sure. Not a fan of that. The fence splining and the way it follows the lay of the land is so welcome! You can also lower the whole fence as a spline which is genius! Splitting and joining splines also very welcome same as copy and pasting splines too! Trees look amazing but overall really disappointing lack of new objects and textures plus the obvious backward step with object meter. Meh.

Just want to add, the wall splining is a game changer, I’ve just done a retaining wall that changes height to follow the terrain using a spline. Took me 5 minutes when usually doing an entire lake would take 2-3 hours. It’s amazing

2 changes that I don't think have been mentioned yet.
1. Massively scaled up rocks seems to have their collisions fixed. I made a giant collection of max size rocks and the ball bounced around on top and came to rest on top of the rocks. I think the textures
2. The trick used to give yourself a bigger plot (waypoint at the edge of the map extends the map slowly every time you put it close to the edge) no longer works in the new game. Luckily porting a 2K21 course that used this trick over to the new game keeps the big plot for people that want that.

Will just say that this aspect isn't totally true. Might be a lidar thing, but with user-created courses, they vary: South Yarra was 100%, now 96%; Old Wickham Heath was 100%, now 97%; 17 Mile Club was 100%, now 116%; Strathlorne was 100%, still 100%. Just to do with the new tree models and how memory intensive they are. The bigger issue for me is the need to replant anything where you've sunken bushes/trees carefully - it's understandable, but time-consuming.

Does this include sinking grasses lower as well, including those that sit over an edge so they don't look like they're half-floating? I am thinking about porting one over, but that would be tough... I will take some time to watch and videos on the new version's designer more, but thought I'd ask. Thanks...

Hi Ben. Does this mean that bushes sunk down amongst grass to look like e.g. bracken, each need to be redone? I have hundreds of them!!
Is your word “carefully” significant in describing what needs redoing?

Is your word “carefully” significant in describing what needs redoing? They redid the artwork for trees and bushes, so there are new models. Some are larger than the models from PGA 2K21, and so you need to check to make sure the buried trees don't stick up out of your fairways and greens, if you happen to have buried trees underneath them.

It's less about fairways and greens - can't think why you'd put them underneath those as all you'd do is burn the textures anyway. Just the different sizes will mean that bushes are typically higher than they were before and some objects totally changing will give vastly different looks. You'll only know when you pull the course in.

It’s a weird mix but means a lot of resizing going on!

I have now ported a very nearly completed course across to 2k23. It had a lot of sunken bushes to give texture and feel to grasses as they rendered
The bad news is that many of these bushes and sunk tress are now a very bright green and look utterly wrong
The goodish news is that the rendering in the new game means, I think, less need for bushes and trees to be sunk, the general look and feel seems “less is more” in 2k23
The good news is that the new cursor tool means that amending my course will be about 10 times (no exaggeration) quicker than the same exercise would have been in 2k21
Still lots to consider, but that is my report from the designer front line!

I ported a lidar course and got 122% object meter. I deleted all cars (over a hundred) and got down to 98%. But the good thing is the menu is sooo much faster. It was a nightmare with lidar courses navigating the 40+ pages of trees.
