Hello all,
I hope someone can enlighten me about the following issue. Judging by the section in the forum, my question is about a golf course which comes from Lidar/Osm data. I have already read through the video, as well as the forum thread, as well as The Course Review Process. However, it is not clear to me to what extent the "cliffs" / "riffs" are considered in the evaluation. Since I don't use the entire area available in the designer, there are said "cliffs" left at the edges of the course. No matter from which position on the course, with no "ball flight", "hole overflight" or a high pitch etc. it is never possible for the player to see these "cliffs".
Question: Do they still have to be adjusted and pseudo landscape placed on top of them, just so you don't see the "cliffs" when you are in "designer" mode?
Thanks & Have a nice weekend

Hi paddyjk19 first of all, thanks for your response! I guess you're talking about this Option "Course Options" --> "Add Background Terrain/Remove Cliffs" The only thing this option has done for me so far is that the cliffs are only rounded and designed to be slightly sloping instead of sharp-edged. But behind it it still goes down to the ground. Surely this option can be used well if you select a larger area in the Lidar? The map material I selected did not have the complete area that the Course Designer offers by default. Unfortunately, the "Add Background Terrain/Remove Cliffs" option cannot compensate for these distances I guess.

No it doesn’t match to the background area but does remove the jagged edges. In reality I only had plant areas within 50-100 metres of the course boundary unless there’s a significant background feature like Brookline or St Enodoc. If it’s a standard woodland course I create a 20 metre high perimeter “mounding” to block long range emptiness and I lower the area outside of this perimeter so I don’t need to plant by hand the entire plot but it ensures you can’t see empty spaces during scout or follow cam. It all depends on what the course are is like, sometimes I’ll use massive oaks or ash trees buried with just the tops exposed to match the heights of the in play trees, this stops light getting in and can allow you to create a woodland into the distance without using a million trees and lots of your time. If you want play the following courses and use the roaming camera to see how I’ve filled out backgrounds / blocked space; TCC, Brookline (US Open) West Hill Golf Club 2k21 Stoke Park Club

Thank you so much for the explanation and the reference to these courses. I love looking at these!
The course "West Hill Golf Club 2k21" is beautiful, just the small creek on the green of hole 3. Great work! The creek even has a wooden fence near the green, I'm freaking out.

It’s such a shame you can only use the free roam cam on PC to go and scout the whole plot, I use it on every new course to see how designers have constructed and planted, so good to pick up techniques ideas

Now I see what you're talking about.
