Hi,
Would be keen to see the opinions people have formed for the 'best' places for golf? Very subjective and maybe hard to pin to one area. I've been looking at a really wide span of courses recently and started to form a bias towards Oceania.. I feel it has a lot of similarities to traditional links but with a few added qualities. I'd say mainly aesthetic qualities but so many courses just look absolutely mind blowing yet so natural. A few I really like below;
St Andrews Beach National (Moonah Course) Barnbougle (Farm and Dunes) Kingston Heath

Incredibly biased as I have had the good fortune of playing some of them, but the South East of England has a variety of fantastic golf courses in different styles.
True links - Royal St George’s, Princes, Royal Cinque Ports Heathland - Sunningdale Old, Walton Heath Old, Worplesdon Parkland - The London Club International, Chart Hills
Golf how it’s meant to be played.

Melbourne, Scotland (Ayrshire, St Andrews, Edinburgh), Long Island, Monterey Peninsula. Don’t think I could choose between them.

Wow! Very fortunate part of the country to be golfing mate… expensive as well i bet ha! But you’re right, that’s such a good mixture of course types. Have you played Woking Golf Club? I was reading about it the other day and the crazy undulations in the greens. im sure there’s an apparent 4ft contour or something like that??? Never played down south. Definitely on the to do list (north west England)

Yeah I think there’s too much quality and variety to have a definitive answer. Some of the Monterey stuff is just crazy but equally, so is some of the stuff iv seen towards NY. Do you follow Country Club Collection on Instagram? He’s played some awesome tracks around long island or around the Hudson etc?

Yes, RCP is probably the most fun I’ve had playing golf.

Yes, RCP is probably the most fun I’ve had playing golf. Wouldn't doubt that for a second. Just sent over green fees to my pal. 100% mission to play that within the next year. currently £110 for a twilight round... i've only played 1 links course in my life which is Cleveland Golf Club up in the north east. Doesn't really look comparable though to be honest ha!

Embarrassingly not played in Scotland to say i'm in NW England. A friend went in June but i'd taken the week off with GF so was struggling to justify using 3 days of that time playing golf! ha He said the courses in general just make you feel different. Certainly due a trip up. Have you played any golf in Wales? there's a course called Nefyn which i'm trying to reach. Think it had major storm damage early in the year and shut a few of the peninsula holes which are one of the main reasons to play

I want to go to Bandon one day. You from the US or? There's a ton over there i'd give a lot to go and play ha! just been listening to Fried Egg podcast on about Bandon and the Actual Bandon Dunes course. Seemed like a mix review to some degree. Pacific Dunes seemed the highest rated.

If you ever play it in game royal cinque ports 2020 in (2k21), make sure the wind is in your face on the first hole, then you experience maybe the toughest 6 finishing holes which was on the open rota. (TGC2019 pics) 1st lidar ,Hopefully all the recent changes coming to 2k23 in 2023. Got to be honest i love the NW of England,Birkdale,Hillside,Southport and Ainsdale plus plenty others.

Yeah definitely gonna have a round on it so will ensure the winds up. Trying to make a linksy style (more so Oceania style) so sure can take plenty on inspiration from it. Couldn't believe how amazing it looks on Youtube though with some of the videos on it. Yep it has some legendary tracks albeit i haven't played any of those yet. (Green fees are pretty petrifying for a high 70's/low 80s player). You played a lot of northern stuff?
