TST S8 - Week 46 - Memphis Meetup (and first FedEX playoff)

Dear TST enthusiasts,

This is the first week of the FedEX playoffs, which means that the top 125 in the FedEX points standings after week 45 will battle for extra points to make the field for next week; only the top 70 in the FedEX standings after this week will move to the second playoff event.

skoader will post the field here, as soon as week 45 has been finalised.

However, everyone can still play because our flights wil continue right up to the end of the season, as will promo and demo marks for moving up and down flights. So, everything to play for for everyone!

This week, we play the Honors Golf Club in Tennessee, a Pete Dye course, ranked 28th in golf digest top 100 golf courses.
It is simply a gorgeous golf course (and sooo much better than HB's attempt at a Tennessee course) but not easy. Some of the greens are tricky.
However, we're now into the FedEx playoffs and you guys are putting machines, so you'll be fine!

Oh Frans you spoil us. Another beauty of a course and a cracking challenge for me. Pleased to get to half time at 7 under. I'm really glad I stuck this TST thing out. It was a struggle at first but it's definitely become the highlight of my pixel golfing week.

No FedEx for me but a place in Hogan to defend!!

Disappointing 12 under at the close. I'd be dangerous if I stopped assuming putts that look straight aren't!! 

This season has been a good grounding but next season I'll be looking to kick on and qualify for that FedEx. Just need to devote a little more time to this instead of rushing through things. Silly errors costing me so many shots.

But I'm an impatient bastard at the best of times!!!

Playing with a corona-induced brain fog today has taught me two things:
1) Even a brain fog cannot stop me from making birdies (36)
2) It does increase the bogey or worse-count considerably though… 😂😂😂

-21 and hope to be fit again next week

That's a phase we all had to go through on true sim, Ben. I always think the hardest thing is convincing yourself a putt is straight.

According to the standings thread I am in the playoffs despite a 5 week hiatus? Amazing.

If you're not talking about the beer, I hope you feel better soon! Practicing the course with you and Skoader.  I've never seen you guys play before might as well now before I get eliminated. I'll play next week either way though.

Well, I was hoping you were.  I can't drink that beer anymore and it was so good with a lime!  Sorry to hear that.  The only way I can help is to say that you did a tremendous job this season - I remember when you took over at the end of the first season with 2K21 and you had us pressuring you and the comments on the in game screen were complaining about you LOL.  Notice that Habs guy who writes on the in-game board said you did a great job this year - it was so worth having all real courses and great ones.  You picked good substitutions too and great majors courses.  

Are you going to be available to be the scheduler next year?

Loved this course. Absolutely beautiful visually and a seriously tough test tee to green even on Pro - without being gimmicky in the slightest - and some subtle breaks that meant you couldn't switch off on the greens for a second. Great pick as always Frans (and feel better soon!)

I went -35 over the four rounds this afternoon. Felt like I played really well to post that, and (woe is me) had no luck on the greens.

Streamed all four if anyone is interested / has some time to kill. Play well!

Big points up for grabs this week in the first of three playoffs on our way to crowning the Season 8 TST Tour Champion.

• The top 125 players in FedExCup points have earned a place in the first playoff this week.
• The playoff field will be cut to 65 and ties after the completion of round 2.
• Flights are not affected by the playoffs and will continue to run as normal for the remainder of the season.

In next weeks event, the field will be whittled down to the top 70. So try to take advantage of the points on offer this week to secure your position in the second playoff.

Yeah, should have not assumed too much after last week. I don't know, did I catch the brain fog or something by rubbing shoulders with the scheduler in the standings last event...?

From the possible highs of what felt like just yesterday (which it was at some part of the world but not here anymore, btw), to absolute lows in this week's event. -3 round 1 that had more potential but left too much out there, and then... I don't know, +1 round 2 which just died a slow death. You really don't want to be off tempo on this one, or in my case, what felt like about every hole... except that one par 3 over the water... thank goodness for that.

So I did qualify to the first leg of FedEx playoffs, and comfortably so. Whether that is thanks to my resilience of playing each week, or getting a couple of good finishes this season... or both? I don't know. But me thinks unless I can pull a massive turnaround with what rounds I have left, I have no doubt that I'll be just short of week 2. Week 1 of FedEx was my finishing goal this season and it only got stronger after making what was then a surprise cut for me in week 1. Considering I was I think like 10 spots away last season, certainly not thanks to my playing ability then, it's a steady testament of my improvement over the year, and some might say it's a blessing of the admin gods because I genuinely think I could have only done it with this switch we got. I'm putting this end of the season statement here and now (that is for the overall standings, of course I will play and report until the season truly ends because I still have a flight to compete in). I don't think I've got much to say other than my scores after finishing my week sometime later.

So good luck to ya whoever makes it forward in the playoffs after this week! Won't be me, but I gave it more of a fight than I imagined I would about a year ago.
