We will see how it goes but I am about to try my hand at a real course. I have Decided it will be : Cog Hill (Course #4, Dubsdread)
Nationally ranked since it opened in 1964, Course #4 has acquired the nickname, "Dubsdread". A natural style championship golf course, Dubsdread places a demand on shot making by providing tight landing areas combined with heavily bunkered, large undulating greens. From September 2007 to September 2008, renowned golf course architect Rees Jones oversaw a renovation project to update the challenges envisioned in the original design of Dick Wilson and Joe Lee. Golfers now face 18 new greens with Sub-Air Systems, redesigned and repositioned sand bunkers, a risk-reward pond on Hole 7, additional tee options, and a 497-yd. par 4 finishing hole featuring a green moved perilously close to the nearby pond.

Recreating real life courses is a hard proposition.
So good luck to you!

Thanks man. I am researching now. LOL, I might be wavering. The course layout wont be hard, that's doable. How real do we need to be to be considered real course? I can get the layout, the bunker types and positions (although maybe not exact shape, the tees and greens shape. What is going to be difficult is the terrain contour. I mean I can get it "similar". Not sure exact. What would the players consider accurate enough for it to be considered a "real" course I wonder?

A question that theclv24 can answer the best probably. In my honest opinion I'd say if the terrain contour is not absolutely identic to the real course, I can absolutely live with that. "Similar" is good enough for me.

Got the course laid out last night. Getting Terrain and everything is definitely going to take a lot of work. Then there is the greens and the tiers. I may have bitten of more than I can chew with this.

What would the players consider accurate enough for it to be considered a "real" course I wonder? Well, i do know that most folks are very picky when it comes to "real" renditions. Your TPC sixty course has shown that you are well on your way to becoming a top designer within the GNCD. I would just ask the question, "do you really want to put yourself through the stress of re-creating a famous course at this early stage". If your answer is "yes", then by all means go for it. If you have not already, i would suggest you check these real course renditions...just to kinda give yourself an idea of what has already been published by some of the top designers Whistling Straits Sheboygan, Wisconsin Magnolia....(Augusta) Royal Troon PGA West (Palmer) These are just 4 examples of the top of my head to give you an idea of the standards that folks expect from real life rendition courses. There are many more out there, but these stick in my head, so i apologize in advance to all other designers...So Shawn, no matter which way you decide to go, i am looking forward to your future courses........Cheers

Man I really appreciate the comments. I have not updated the thread yet but I was going to. I don't think I will be doing the "real" course. I have more of an artistic mind. When I start building a course I kinda just go with it as it comes to me. Look and feel. The real course thing is to technical. I'm not sure I will enjoy doing what somebody already did. Although I hope other guys do because I would like to play real courses as I am sure most would but these created courses are so awesome its not a big deal if I don't. I will definitely play the ones out there. I started a new one tonight. I wont go into detail but here is an excerpt and it is a really cool course. Got it laid out already.
In golf there is a place few speak of. Usually only spoken in a dark 19th hole back corner by some drunk or brave sole that dare mention it. Legend has it this place is so frustrating, so demanding that when golfers go there they are never heard from again. It is said this place was created by the Golf Gods themselves. That it was created as the ultimate test. Many have tried, few have succeeded. This place, this Holy place does not cost money, oh no, it takes much more than that. None knows who owns it, but it is there. This place goes by only one name.......The Judge.
This one is going to test people. Its going to be a true test without being stupid and fantasy Tiger Woodsy. You know what I mean. It could be a real course but still going to be really cool. The layout is really nice. I cant even explain but when you see it you will know what I mean. Thanks again for the kind words Karma. My creative juices are really flowing right now with this game. Its just beautiful.

Looking forward to it, i think, you made a good decision....Remember, most players don't like too much fantasy......it should remain within the realm of reality......also, no need to rush it...attend to details ..........Cheers
