Welcome to South Carolina, and to my entry into the 2022 National Treasure contest, The Loggerhead! Taking inspiration from some famous real-life courses in the Palmetto State, as well as some interesting landmarks found there, The Loggerhead is a brand new golf resort found on a sea island off the coast of the mainland. Accessible by boat, air, or by car ferry, The Loggerhead is a destination for world-class golf in a state that already has its fair share of championship courses and luxurious golf resorts. The Loggerhead is named after the state reptile of South Carolina, the loggerhead sea turtle, which uses the surrounding beaches to lay their eggs. Other areas based on real-life influences found on the course include: - a lighthouse modeled after the Morris Island Lighthouse, which opened back in 1876 In-game: - Boneyard Beach, located on Bulls Island, which is part of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge In-game: - The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, known worldwide for hosting major golf tournaments, including the 1991 Ryder Cup In-game: - Harbour Town Golf Links, an annual stop on the PGA Tour In-game: The Loggerhead course stretches to over 7,400 yards from the championship tees, and plays to a par of 71. The course winds its way along the ocean coast, through thick areas of trees, over and around dunes of various sizes, and alongside inland bodies of water. There are many bunkers that will challenge you throughout your round as well. Greens are set to Fast - 179 at default, and are tested at Very Fast - 187 speeds. I suggest playing the course with some wind - medium speeds or above - for an "authentic" sea island golf experience. Here are a few more pictures: The opening hole: Hole 6 green: Approach on Hole 12, with the Loggerhead Resort Hotel off to the right: Hole 13 green: Hole 14: The challenging finishing hole, with the clubhouse in the background: The scorecard: Thanks to Crazycanuck1985 and jwtexan for hosting the contest...good luck to all entrants!

Hey man. Just played this one on pin set 4 everything default. Came out with a bogey free -6. Some really nice holes on this one. Few of my favourites were: Par 3 9th, tough bunker placement muscled a PW 150 to green 13th looked nice running along the beach 16th was nice and nicer with an eagle! 17th par 3, using that right 2 left slope behind bunker and put it to 3ft. Brilliant.
Great track dude, not my preferred colour scheme but works well for your theme! 👊🏻

Coming from the first two NT courses I played in AR and WV with massive elevation changes, this was a great change of pace! I really liked the simplicity in the plot with the water creeping into play on multiple holes. The rocky textures and planting was great for the environment as well. I've never been to South Carolina before but when/if I do, this is what I will imagine the golf will be like! Good luck in the comp!

I spent 3 weeks in South Carolina last October, spending time on Kiawah Island and in Charleston. So I found out first hand why they call it the "lowlands"! I loved the views and setting at the Ocean Course...I really wanted to capture that, without making a replica of it. Along with that, I wanted some of the feel that Harbour Town has, given that it's on the real-life PGA Tour every year. I figured it would be fun for players to enjoy some awesome ocean views, as well as get some of the more tight, inland feel found up on Hilton Head Island. Hopefully, you do someday get to South Carolina...it's an amazing place. I was really fortunate to get SC as my state, and I hope I did it justice!

Awesome course here Steve. I can defintely see the Kiawah and Harbor Town influences while it doesn't smack you over the head with those, it's still a unique track. I probably would have overplanted trying to imulate this but you I think had the right restraint on your planting and it came out real good. The whole course itself feels low land without feeling overly flat which isn't as easy as it seems to make in the designer so great job on that too.

Steve just gave this one a run. Gotta say I quite liked the holes inland on the plot as I thought you nailed the planting. Think my favorites on the course were the 9th, 12th, and 17th.
Being S. Carolina I wish the water would’ve come into play a bit more but that’s just a design decision.
Great environment and hopefully the loggerhead does well for you in the contest!

Nice job with this mate. I enjoyed the environment and some of your planting decisions. I could do with a golfing holiday somewhere like this right about now...
