Blackpoll is a fictional course. It is named after the Blackpoll Warbler - a tiny bird which migrates north through Magee Marsh (Ohio, south shore of Lake Erie) near me (the biggest week in American Birding May. 6-15th).
Every fall, most Blackpoll Warblers make an over-water migration from our northeastern coast to northern South America; some may pause in Bermuda or the Antilles, but others apparently fly nonstop for more than 72 hours covering an incredible 1,900 miles non-stop over water. Like the Blackpoll Warbler your golf ball may be required to fly non-stop over water on several holes.
Absolutely love any and all feedback. Thanks for looking and I hope you enjoy your round. Bob

Hey Bob, playing back tees and pin 1, default everything
Hole 2 waypoint sets me up at the fairway way left of the hole. I think a par three should set my up direct to the green. You've also got fairway and light rough cut on the right of the green on a very severe slope - almost vertical! There's no need for that grass to be cut - the green plateau and then straight to heavy rough as it drops off would be better.
Hole 6 - this is completely subjective but if it were my course I'd bring the bunker at the back of the green a little closer to the green. With 10 yards of fairway between green and the bunker, and an uphill slope, I just think it's not particularly threataning.
Hole 8 - the area between the forwardmost front bunker and the green could be tightened up a bit - both with sculpting and with the surfacing. You wouldn't have light rough cut down the face of the bunker like that (or at least have the whole area at the front of that bunker as light rough maybe)
15 is a lovely hole
17 - like the design but I was playing into the wind and that left me with a completely blind second shot from the left side, and I couldn't see any benefit to going right.
It's a nice course, like the planting (especially around the water), like lots of the hole designs, like the use of elevation changes. Maybe could do with some more panting off-course, especially around some of the houses etc.
Good stuff.

Thanks for the play through and feedback. Agree with all your observations and needed changes. Exactly what I was looking for. No. 17 tee shot - playing to the right is a straight shot to the green and avoids the bunkers left is my strategy. Thanks again, Bob

Hey Bob,
Took my time playing your beta Blackpoll, and have a ton of observations that may help.I will give overall observations at the end of the post.I played pin 2 on default winds from the back tees. #1. Nice lake look.I hit it dead centre into a 12 mph wind and couldn't see the green(bunker and sloping on left).Had a downhill 62 foot putt that took me well off the green. #2. Nice rock and shrub work.Green is too small for a 231 yd par 3.Weird green peninsula to the right of the tee into the water.Green roll off and slope to the right is too severe. #3. Nice look again with solid planting.Shorten the height of the spruce in the centre view or take them out.Good look to the green. The middle red slope takes up too much area on the green. #4. Like the look and options off the tee.Green shape on the right juts in too much and is punishing. If you are on the front right going to the back right you may have to chip. The run off on the left may be too severe.I hit almost dead centre, rolled off left and had a 19 yd uphill chip. #5. Tee shot is too pinched off the tee.Maybe lose the pines in the middle for the second shot- it would allow you to see the rough mounding and bunker better in front. #6. A nice looking uphill par three. The left side red slope is too severe trying to hit a postage stamp target for pin 2. #7. Nice shrub/rock planting around water. An interesting drivable- I got wet!Maybe lose the dead tree in the centre although it does add character. #8. Really like the look.Awesome planting overall. Can't see front 3 bunkers well.Prop up bunkers a few feet or take out a few high shrubs. #9. Like the low grass off the tee- Use this technique more often for drawing your eye to the centre and taking away open looks.A really good look off the tee( remember this combination look).Nice choice with centreline bunker.Red slope on green is too severe. #10. Don't think you need to stop the right side fairway- doesn't make sense.Solid planting. #11. Okay look off the tee.Green uphill elevation is a bit too severe. #12. Okay hole.Tone down the waterfall flow and spray. The peninsula seems a bit artificial or forced. Is the 2nd shot supposed to be intentionally blind?Misses alot of views needed into this green since it is a long dangerous par 4. #13. Love the look and risk/reward option- I blew it again.Soften the flow and spray of all the waterfalls- place more rocks where the water breaks to a new level. This was my favourite looking hole- not the best playing hole though. #14. decent look.Landing zone is too narrow.A solid basic green that makes good sense with its sloping. #15. The choices here are unique but a bit too severe.I tried the speed slope to the right and missed again- no wonder I am only in Beer League....Ha! #16. The shrubs short off the tee are distracting.Move them left and right to open the middle and frame the hole better so you can see the water or eliminate them entirely.A good green. Can't see the lower right bunker off the tee.A few hills have severe sloping behind the green. #17. This hole just doesn't look right off the tee and doesn't fit the course style.Weakest hole look wise.Shrubs and grasses are a distraction.Lose the centreline pine. You cant't really see the left or right fairway choices off the tee(sculpting issues). The sloping is too severe and you can't see the the green. It is too plain and open behind the green. This hole needs the most work. #18. Good look coming home.Plant some shrubs and rocks on the left centre bank before the fairway begins for depth. The fairway slope is a bit too severe and needs sculpting.
Overall- This is your best course and I see big improvements as a designer.
Positives- Improved shrub and rock planting sinking them.It really adds to the environment.Your course layout is becoming more consistent and flows better. All of the holes are a decent layout- some stronger than others. You have a few creative risk reward holes.Your views overall are much more solid and make sense.Your framing and site lines continue to improve.
Things to work on - Red slopes on the greens and around them are still too severe. The elevation changes are big but I find them interesting.Fairways and some runoffs need sculpting to tone down severeness.I think there are a few unintentional blind shots.Try to use more grasses on holes before you reach the fairways for framing( like you did on #9).# 6 and 7 pins seemed close to being on yellowish slopes but I know the big boys do this all the time.
Bob,I really enjoyed your beta and think it has great potential. Can't wait to play the final version when it come out.You can tell you take feedback well and are growing as a designer.
I hope you get a chance to play my National Treasure course representing the great state of Oklahoma, when it come out.You can send me your feedback, as I really appreciate it.It should be ready in 2-4 weeks(almost done but in the final planting stages and tweaks with a pile of play testing to do)
Happy designing,
Troy
