Any hope that the new version offers improved gameplay is on life support. Hopefully I’m wrong. Kind of ironic, the series that was developed as an alternative to the EA fluff and marketed to actual golf fans appears to have surpassed the grabby gimmicks it once meant to defy. Always expected this result but jeesh. What a great point. Always felt the first 2 versions of the game were great because there was zero link to the PGA. How many PGA video careers do you need? Career mode is the same ole same ole to me. Be it an EA game or 2K.

Looks really grim. I almost ate my own face at the mention of your 'drip'. Hopefully the gameplay is decent.

Curious if we don't have a solution to controller/platforms playing differently for tempo. 3 click would be the most effective cross platform competitive way to play 2K23. Can't see myself going back but there was a time when I only played 3 click.

On Xbox I would be happy to play 3 click and get rid of the tempo swing, though I've never played 3 click. We will see which swing TGC go with. To be fair to all platforms it surely must be 3 click.

If the game requires micro purchases of golf balls, I'm out. If you can spend points for new sleeves, I have no problem with going that direction. Steam is showing the basic package at $59.99.

I think an option to turn off the backswing power meter and just have a timing point on downswing would be better for 3 click. Power bars for backswing distance is going backwards imo. Avatars backswing shows backswing distance, not hard to learn partials from it.

Just an honest question as I've seen your complaint on this before. If splash was called flop would you still have a problem with it? I just feel like splash in 2k21 was no different than flop in tgc19, except the name.

I think splash is even worse, too easy from bunkers and especially poor lies. I do think the wedge chipping is awful too. HB have overlooked the scrambling part of golf in all their games and that is the part of the real golf game that requires touch feel and real skill , which is so frustrating as the putting is superb. I would like the option for putting off the fairway more also, it is too finicky in 2K21.

The short game -putting aside which is outstanding (with vibration off) - is just far too easy in my opinion. Even on the harder difficulties unfortunately. Hopefully they've tweaked it.

I understand appealing to a larger audience, but at a certain point the gameplay’s quality needs to sniff the same ballpark of the marketing efforts. They have the licenses, Tiger and the equipment from the last game - why not highlight the actual game’s qualities? TGC survived and grew because its main goal was to produce a quality competitive golf game. The bells and whistles of licenses, equipment logos and Shooter McGavin get old really quick. Does the average video game consumer still get sucked in by these cheesy promos?

Seems like DLC prices are going up for 2K23...which is probably not a surprise, but is a bit frustrating, especially since they are adding "consumables" - items that eventually expire after use - to the game. Taken from the press release:
"Clubhouse Pass is available in three tiers: Free, Premium ($9.99/season) and Premium + ($19.99/season)"
In comparison, PGA 2K21's prices were free, $7.99, and $14.99.

They've never been shy about tweaking the game, often via unannounced updates with no explanation. I doubt that will change, so I'm sure there will be gameplay differences right off the bat with 2K23, hopefully to make chipping etc. less of a slam dunk. It wouldn't surprise me if either splash or flop disappeared altogether since there wasn't much difference between them, but bringing punch back would be a popular move in exchange.
