Dear TST enthusiasts,
This week, we play a lovely RCR of the Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio, where the IRL Valero Texas Open is played.
Fairways and greens are pretty soft the first day but the wind and sun firm them up as the week progresses.
Good luck and have fun!
Frans

Concentrating on getting under par going forward. For me that's an achievement in itself Did OK except for a 4 putt in the 2nd Round when I couldn't stop laughing after the Mrs showed me some dungarees she was thinking of buying. Think Ronald McDonald....soon stopped laughing when I saw the price but putted through the tears! Anyhow, bloody spoiled the round!! Off to finish up because I have the time though I fear the cut line will once again pass me by. Onward. Here you go Art Art Vandelay not much to trouble you there....

Art VandelayOnce again I have failed to set my nemesis a decent target. Poor weekend ends up at -13 for the week. Seems to be a pretty standard showing from me, one decent round, 3 rounds of dross!

SkyBlueBen congrats, nemesis defeated! -3, +1. Played like a big ol' fleshie in those high Texas winds. Onward to Firethorn, where I am sure to burn out again.

Always hate starting a tournament with a bogey. But birdied the par 5, let the grind begin. 😃e
one start and one missed cut. Learning...

Now that the Pakistan test series is finished I'm back to play here again, usually playing a round a day after work. Started off with a 70 this week, tempo was a bit off, often hitting grey fast approaches and ending up further away than intended. Misreads were an issue as well Hopefully will do better next round.

68 second round. Same issue with approaches but managed an eagle on 17. Maybe next round I can shoot 64 🥴

Went from feeling like garbage to actually looking quite okay through 2. Why do I keep flip flopping and never finding any sense of consistency anymore on here? Round 1, -5 with 1 in 3 greens hit. I scored on half of those greens hit, chipped twice. Par saving ability got a strong workout because my tempo was not operating well. That was the strongest part of my game this round, could have honestly been much worse off. -9 in round 2. Includes 2 eagles which I can't even remember when that's happened the last time in a round of TST for me, if ever. (EDIT: it has happened before, last time was week 17 this season) Both off the green, one chip and one hole out from 32 yards, which I just hit somewhere around the pin and hoped it would stop and it did at the pin. There was one bogey on there so I couldn't keep my round 1 strength up but good enough. Worse hitting fairways but much better on greens. Strange, but okay. Well, a rather surprisingly strong -14 at the cut. After round 1 I was prepared to pack it in and see if I'd make it through but I guess I still have 2 more rounds this week after all! Cheers, good luck!

Chuffed to make the cut but let myself down on the weekend. Need to learn how to put more than one decent round in. No idea why I can play so well and read the putts in one round then be a complete shambles in the other three 😫

Is there a yo-yo award to be awarded? Because if so...
-5, -9, -5, -8 for -27. 72nd hole bogey by getting a well timed slow (not even red) that took the sweetest bounce into the drink made sure I couldn't put up one better. The splash effort to even put a bogey on the card and not worse was actually pretty good though and almost saved it. Didn't think I'd get the automatic drop to 22 yards, OR on the fairway. Was expecting a longer shot than going in (I think I was just under 80 yards before hitting water). Ironically was 10 feet on average closer to the hole in round 3 than any other one, yet scored pretty much my entire score on 3 consecutive holes at 4-6. I think that for about 33-34 foot proximity in 3 out of 4 rounds and putter not being super great despite putts per hole looking excellent (thanks par saves), this week is pretty solid for me. Not flashy, but solid work.
Par saving was looking fantastic this week and holing out felt better and more common, compared to most weeks. Got kind of screwed by being a little off on everything but being able to save the bacon is paying off so that I can finish at my comfortable top 40 or so. Good thing that I'm finding those good saves now, I foresee similar strengths being needed next week... oh boy, am I looking and not looking forward to that one at the same time.
Cheers, and best of luck into next week!
