After I built my first sandbelt RCR about 18 months ago, I had always planned on building a fictional sandbelt but wanted to wait so I could get better in the designer and hopefully do it justice. I had this location (Half Moon Bay in Black Rock, Melbourne) as my preferred setting as well as the name (I lived in the bayside suburb of Chelsea in Melbourne).
Realistically there are no sandbelt courses with any direct ocean views despite Royal Melbourne being only a few good tee shots away from Half Moon Bay and Victoria Golf Club being very close as well. All other sandbelt courses are further inland from the bay. It’s a real shame.
I therefore decided to bring strong influences from Peninsula Kingswood (planting, land movement and large sandy waste areas) and move them by the bay in the affluent suburb of Black Rock. It’s not intended that this course be based around the more traditional style sandbelt courses like Royal Melbourne, Kingston Heath etc but be far more wild and natural like PK. You will however, find very large, very deep, penalising bunkers, some tight routing, some good width and angles and some hard and fast running greens as in all sandbelt courses. I also threw in a very traditional sandbelt clubhouse inspired by Victoria Golf Club too.
This was easily the most technically difficult and time consuming fictional course I’ve built so far. Hope you enjoy.

Went for a swim in Half Moon Bay yesterday after work. Starting to get a little chilly in the water. Look forward to playing this tonight.

Went for a swim in Half Moon Bay yesterday after work. Starting to get a little chilly in the water. Look forward to playing this tonight. You're brave at this time of year. I took some significant liberties with the landscape at 'my' Half Moon Bay and I didn't include the Cerberus. Hope you enjoy your round. Awesome as always my friend! Thanks mate. Push your button as well will ya. Look forward to it.

For me this is your best fictional course to date. Just pips out Cape Clements. Loved the elevation change, bunkering and the surrounding environment was very well done. Nice little touch with the bathing boxes in front of Lindsay Fox's humble abode. And the clubhouse did remind me of Vic. Great work! EDIT: Any chance you could post an overhead?

Sick environment and great golf as always. Houses alongside the course were really cool.

Very nice! Yeah you've taken plenty of liberties with HMB but who cares? Environment is great. Golf's really good too. I will definately take some inspiration from much of your off-course work on my courses. Par 3 16 is my favourite hole.

Stellar course! A lot of fun shots to think about some subtle strategy and some more apparent here that you really can't sleep on. As always with you coruses it looks great and I loved the way you did shallow water (did you bury trees between the sand? Also the beach bars looks like some great spots to have a drink at! Awesome course, defintely a contender to me! Good luck in the comp!

Mate, what a course! I've got friends down the road a little way across the road from Keast Park so I know the area. Such a stunning plot i.imgur.com/laGVTg3.jpgA spectacular clubhouse i.imgur.com/y9e7dSf.jpgVery nice range i.imgur.com/K4F5pCo.jpgThose paths are stunning, and I know how long that would have taken i.imgur.com/8d250Kq.jpg i.imgur.com/KyW3Nzj.jpg Taking advantage of that with 4 tee boxes and 2 green complexes. How cool that the house also has a letterbox i.imgur.com/1sjvkUY.jpgReally lovely houses up on the hill at both ends of the course i.imgur.com/Ak8CWjT.jpgThe houses and bathing boxes on the beach are very detailed i.imgur.com/Ltp8Oa3.jpgMy round got off to an OK start but I ran out of fairway on the first, even after watching Wayne's play through and knowing that it would happen. So par-par start. On the third I had a quick scout around looking at that immaculate pathway. Really happy with my approach sot, but thought the side slope may have done more to counteract the wind. Cut a 3W into 4 with the wind in my face. Very well protected green on 5 with those gorgeous sandbelt bunkers. Wonderfully treacherous par 3 7th. Another quick scout around on the 8th tee looking at the fantastic holiday homes on the hill. Hit a ripper driver/driver into 8. Love the framing on 9 with the beachboxes just visible on the left hand side. So 2 under at the turn and then things changed... Just missed my birdie chip as it curled around the hole on 10. Got real lucky on 11 when my tee shot finished on top of the swale when it could have gone either way then made the chip. Missed my eagle putt on 14 by a mile. Tried to get cute on 15 and overcut my 3H approach. That hole is a brute at 496 into a 10mph wind. Made up for it on 16 with an ace! Hit a peach into 17 for a kick-in birdie and then after a 3W that Tiger would be proud of, holed out with a nice 12 footer down the hill for eagle. Wonderfully rugged course with good elevation changes, strategy out the wazoo and fantastic planting, so who can't resist a sandbelt.

freternick - Cheers mate. I loved building the off course stuff too. Just had to be a little more subtle with this one blueblood1995 - Very glad you enjoyed. It was certainly the most difficult and time consuming. pizzastrangler, fargo, jd1993, pmcalister, HoneyBadgerHacker trailducker - Thanks for taking the time to play & comment. Glad you got some enjoyment out of it. WhatAboutAmeobisandgroperAfter putting so many hours into a silly hobby like this, it's really rewarding to see playthroughs like you guys do. Good or bad, it's fun to see how others interpret what's been created. Thanks again.
