There's no better place to be than up on the West Coast of Scotland, amongst the many sea lochs and rocky inlets. When old Tommy McDoak (the well-travelled course architect) heard of the plight of the old 9-hole course at Dunmurchan Bay, he immediately headed back to see what could be done. Years of neglect had left the course in dire need of renovation. Back on his home turf, Tommy brought this gem back to life, renaming it 'The Stamping Ground' in the process. Co-located with the salmon farm, this small community is thriving once again. 'The Stamping Ground' nestles in a coastal oasis, bounded by pine forests, sheltering the course from the worst of the prevailing Atlantic weather. The course itself is a fascinating mix of natural rock, sandy beaches and the native flora, largely heather and gorse. Measuring just north of 6500 yards, this par 70 track provides a great challenge, the natural sandy beaches providing interesting natural hazards. You'll head out from the little hamlet toward the coast and then from the 9th, playing back toward the elegant clubhouse. Along the way there are 6 par 3s to test your accuracy and 4 par 5s to test the longer hitters. Wherever you are on the course, take a moment to soak in the natural splendour. Not for too long though!... there's golf to be played. Enjoy! and the routing...

Excellent course Rich you've definitely took your designing up a notch with this one. Great looking course with a fair amount of challenges to it, well worth a visit.
Good luck in the contest.

Nice course and a challenge that that makes you pay on bad shots of which I made quite a few but happy finishing on +1.
I noticed quite a few of your green fringes were quite large; how do you do that?

Just played your Arrancha Springs and under estimated it with my first albatross ever on the 7th but it went downhill from there with two bogeys and a double bogey. I finished on -4. Still, nice course though.

I noticed quite a few of your green fringes were quite large; how do you do that? You can lay down thin lines of green adjacent to the existing fringe and because the thin line doesn’t register as green it just adds to the fringe… fiddly but interesting effect…

Lovely course' Really enjoyed the round' Wasn't sure about the huge green grids' But aside from that a really nice challenging course... Thanks for the playthrough… yeah I’m not sure about the green grids either lol!… just experimenting… to be fair it does give you more information about the lie of the land around the green but doesn’t look great - but then neither do the green grids themselves Anyway we live and learn!…

I always love your bold and engaging enviornments and this was no except. Really fun and creative course. I especially dug the pinwheel routing bring yuou back constantly through the round which created alot of interaction with other holes throughout.

Nicely done, Rich. Here's my playthrough vid. Thanks Dan… enjoyed watching your more ‘realistic’ round… and thanks for all the feedback… couldn’t really argue with any of it. I’m a bit frustrated with myself that I used the fringe ‘trick’… it was totally an afterthought and probably wasn’t the right time for experimenting!!… I think my main takeaway from my latest work is that I plant too early, and then get a bit stuck with more significant changes that I need to make. It’s also a really good reminder that not everyone is going to play the longest clubs and on pro or easier… and that designs need to accommodate all different types of player.Anyway, appreciate the honest feedback and I’ll look forward to the rest of your play throughs in the competition. Cheers…
