Welcome to Motu Korowha, my entry in the 2021-22 Rookie Design Contest! Filled with stunning views of the ocean as well as undulating hills inland, Motu Korowha can be a beautiful but challenging course. On this island you won’t find it hard to find fairways but rather find it a little more difficult attacking pins on some of these slippery greens. Overall, the course plays pretty fair but there are definitely a couple of bogey holes out there that could ruin your round in an instant. This course was based a lot off Bandon Dunes but has a lot of tweaks to it too. There are cedars all over the property as well as a couple pines. Thick, dry grass and mesquites cover the landscape as well. This course is made for you to feel like you are playing a natural version of a golf course. Cliffs, mountains, rocks, bushes, and natural land movement that the course seems to have been shaped around. Motu Korowha has taken 3 months to build and has forced so much dedication and hard work out of me. It has been a fun but lengthy process. I hope the end product reflects all of the work I have put in. Motu Korowha has three different tees. Gold is the front tees, Green is the middle tees, and the Black tees are the tips sitting at 7,191 yds. There are also four pin locations on this course. I recommend Pin 1 because that is the pin I focus on the most when designing but the others are fine too. None of the other pins are harder or easier, they are all about the same in difficulty. Feel free to provide feedback, any and all feedback is welcome! I hope you enjoy your round at Motu Korowha! COURSE PICTURES:

Looks good man. Excited to see how it plays when it’s available on Xbox. Seems like a lot of the rookie contest is some form of dunes course.

Nice job man. Course looks nice and played pretty nice as well. Really enjoyed my second shots into some of the par 5s being able to work the ball onto the green. Congrats on the publish.

Hey man finally got a chance to play this course and well done. Sculpting was great and the environment was immersive. Only thing I would say is be careful with sunken trees as I got a bit of stuttering but nothing that really effected my round. Shot -9. Also I would have liked to see you go around the full edge of your fairways with a heavy rough brush but that is a nitpick. The green slopes were a lot of fun and I used many helping slopes. Good luck in the contest.

Congrats Owen on the Tour Worthy. I got to give this a play today and it’s definitely your best course yet. Great job and it’s apparent the improvement you keep making.

I played this today and really enjoyed my round. I think these are 18 of your most interesting greens (loved seeing some holes cut on slopes). And it’s clear you put a lot of work in on crafting lovely sight lines. It was a real treat to watch my tee balls fly out into the landscape you created.
Hole 8 (the 350-ish par 4) was probably my favorite. With my wind, it wasn’t drivable, so I had to make a tough choice off the tee to hold that left section of the fairway.
If I had one critique, it would be that I wish there were more greens cut at the same grade as the fairway. There were a lot of holes with raised green pads, and as a result, a lot of runoffs that promoted a more aerial game. One of the big advantages of a Bandon-like site is that it’s made up of well-draining, sandy soils, so you don’t necessarily need to put greens on high spots. Positioning a few more greens at grade or even in hollows would add variety and promote more shots on the ground.
All that said, really nice work here! The course was a blast to play, and I look forward to seeing more of it as a tournament venue soon.

Ripper course on a wonderful island plot i.imgur.com/FbHd9vZ.jpg. I was playing with the camera and managed to make it look like this i.imgur.com/hNaRpUv.jpgFrom arriving by boat i.imgur.com/r06N5l1.jpg up to the clubhouse i.imgur.com/oSzpOD2.jpg it all looked great. I think my round was played by a schizophrenic. So controlled for the first 5 holes and then get to the 6th, hit a great drive and then BAMM red-fast. Couldn't recover and made bogie. Love the drivable 7th. Boy that approach on 8 was tough. A slow in on 9 put pay to a par. Great approach to the angled green on 12, where I hit a big hook with a 3W to get close. Tough 14th but played the same big hook and it looked so good for so long. I went for the "hold my beer and watch this" on 16 and I think I rolled an ankle getting to my ball. Being heavy rough (or actually a very steep rock face) my ball managed to stop half way to the ocean. I thought "you've got this", which actually means "you don't got this". A marvellous quadruple. How did you make a quadruple you ask, by sinking a wonderful 9 footer. Wonderful closing holes and another risk/reward shot on 18 depending on how brave you want to be.

sandgroper thanks so much for the kind words and play through! Sorry about your stance on 16, I must have missed a spot when putting in the OB. Thanks for giving it a play!
