I have to applaud the USGA for going out of the ordinary for the U.S. Open this year. The pulled a big risk and I think it will pay off.

Reminds me of playing my home course when I was younger.. Public city-owned course, not even a fairway/rough cut on the whole course, and when teeing off you'd have to search for the flattest spot on the tee that actually had grass on it..fun times.

I love the idea, the course was designed with angled tee boxes to work with the prevailing winds. I'm not much of a golfer in real life but I have played chambers bay 4 times and can say it is an absolute beast in windy conditions. With the added length if they get the avg June winds of 20-35 mph the best in the world will leave hating this course and the winner is going to be over par.

Makes me excited to watch, and in this day anything that gets people excited to watch golf is a plus.
Smart move.

Using a tee kind of offsets any slope in a tee box. It affects the feet a bit but these guys are professionals. If they can tee it, they will give themselves a level strike.
Also, it seems like the players aren't very found of the course.or that idea.

I've always loved the US Open because the toughness of some of the courses. I get a kick out of the winning score being -2 or E. I enjoyed the Masters just not as much as I would have liked because it was too easy and too much scoring. I can understand the players though not being a fan, I can just imagine on a par 3, when a tee isn't being used, the first time someone badly shanks one because of an uneven tee box.

I bet they will stick a tee into the ground on those par 3's also like many do on the 17th at Sawgrass, and that's a flat box

What's the over/under on the number of days until Sergio Garcia's first complaint of the course? Ian Poulter has already called it a joke and a farce. Sergio can't be far behind
