Hey Bob,
Played your course twice from the back tees and enjoyed it.As you know, I am a rookie as well, so I don't claim to be good at critiques. This may be longwinded, but I know you will appreciate feedback, as I do. Overall the course is very playable and consistent in what you were trying to create.I liked the colours you chose for fairway and green(they compliment).Although you tend to go with softer slopes on greens, which seem realistic to me and they seemed logical in most places fitting in with the contours of the layout, but I found your red slope runoffs on the green edges a bit too severe.I found your camber on some holes a bit severe and found myself off the fairway from bounces. The overall course things I would work on are:
1. Too overcast or too much fog creating an odd look when you look out over the water. 2.Some spots need more trees- when you look out at certain spots it seems a bit barren 3. More planting of bushes and shrubs over all the course to soften trees and hide rough edges.4. Some tees need flattening
Now the course hole by hole:#1- bunker edges are sharp - soften and smooth, crowned pin has no movement, tee needs flattening.
#2- Good sight lines, well framed, nice pond, fairway trees need under planting, don't care for the bunkers with green spots throughout the course, unless you want them as waste bunkers and plant bushes in them.
#3-back of green is bland, strong fairway camber, bare to the right.
#4- Nice looking hole, awkward sculpt to the left of the green, front bunker where the rough meets the green is odd.
#5-Needs up front planting to frame hole better before the fairway starts, left bunker has too severe a slope, green might have too much yellow slope.
#6- really like this hole, good look to the left but add some bush planting, back of green seems bare, love the natural right to left sloping.
#7- The extended fairway on the left seems unnecessary, great overall view and like the framing, bunker to the right need sculpting,2 waste bunkers need more planting, roll off on the right might be too severe.
#8-Nice drive and overall look but 4 bunkers lined up the way they are doesn't look natural for your course style, more planting on the water's edge.
#9- Fairway around green should be more uniform in size, need more fairway in front of the green to allow a bounce in shot, camber on the fairway is a bit strong, too open on left.
#10- good framing, clear look, needs planting.
#12- good look and framed well, nice planting by water, strong camber.
#14- Nice look of next hole as you approach green, left bunker not really in play.
#15- can't see bunkers well, lighthouse looks too clean, green has too much red, love idol on the right and the lighthouse.
#16- good camber overall, front right needs more.
#17- Drop off is severe on the right, is there a mesquite tree on the left that is supposed to be there?
#18- The horse and mist/steam don't seem to fit.
With all this said, I enjoyed the round and focused on things to work on. I hope it didn't seem negative, but I know you are looking for feedback and the less knowns often can't get enough to work on. I have published my course Capers Bay and am looking forward to what you think.
