Big fan of the look Matt. Thanks Charlie! Really wanted to do something completely out of my comfort zone and sandbelt is definitely stretching me.

Technically yes. First approved course fits the bill for the comp. I appreciate you questioning it though.

Loving this look, just beautiful man... Whew. Thanks man. Lots of work left but slowly chipping away. Not getting as much time in the designer with two little ones now. 6 weeks and 6 holes to go. just finished hole 12 today.

Hey man, Finished up work early today so thought I could give this a test play and feedback. First things first, this is my first time giving feedback and I'm also a rookie so take everything with a large grain of salt. So much about design is subjective and like all art there are different ways to interpret things. A few points before I get into a hole by hole analysis. Overall, the course looks great. Lighting is nice, and the fairway undulations are subtle and play well with the rest of the land. The planting looks natural as well. I especially like the restraint to use too many trees and how the bunkers (ones not right off the fairway) look with the grass planting. I also thought the sculpting on the bunkers looked very good. One thing I'd note about the green-side bunkers though is the transition to get into them. The bunkers themselves look good, but most all of the green had a very jagged transition falling into the sand. Maybe try taking a fuzzy brush on landscape flatten, making it very small and smoothing it out. Something about the way those lines moved was not natural, even with the steepness. Ok now to the course. Just gonna point things out that I saw and would maybe change if it were my course. I wrote these while playing so hopefully they make sense looking back. - First things (second things?) first, clubhouse is sweet. If I'm golfing during a nuclear fallout this is my go to course. Looks like a golf version of a Dr. Evil hide out.
- 1st hole sand on left fairway gets a little vertical. Have a hard time believing that could exist and stand still in real life.
- Sightline on the 3rd hole gets blocked to the left by the land/bushes. I'd lower land/bushes for a full view of the hole.
- Middle of back right bunker on 4 has a pretty smooth transition into sand. I'd try to get the rest looking closer to how that moves.
- Really like 7. Shorter par 4 where the split fairway can make the approach play much different even though it'll almost always be <100 yards in.
- 10 green is intense lol. I get it's a drivable par 4 but looks like 70% red slope. Would make a few parts more playable.
- On 12 that mound on the right of the green seems a little unnatural. I like the idea, but I would have the land to the right of it flow into that mound instead of it standing on its own. It goes downhill once it's off the green, then back up the hill to a larger slope.
- 14 is another nice idea with a split fairway. I think you can extend that fairway to the left since the closest you can really get is 160 (on pin 3 at least). Even if the right was a tougher angle in, I'm almost always going to take a 130 tougher angle shot than easier 160. Longer fairway to the left makes the choice off the tee harder.
- Would love to see the bunker on 18 to the left more off the tee. If you lower the land about 175 yards out from the tee down by 3-5 feet you could probably get a full look at it.
Hopefully all this helps. Good luck in the competition, but obligatory not too much luck ! -Rama

Played the front nine real quick. Sick layout and planting - nice Tara Iti vibes. I'd just say the greens could be toned down a bit (not sure if you plan on publishing at 187 or not). And there were a couple bunkers on 2 and 4 that were sneaking across into the fairway - not sure if that was intentional or not. Cheers.

Thanks for the play through guys and the feedback. The bunkers were intentional as it’s a sandbelt style course. My goal was to mirror playability to courses like South Yarra. I’ll look at some of the sculpting things you mentioned. Also, yes I will tone down the greens for publish to around 175 or so.
