Really enjoy the rankings here MachOne117 and applaud your hard work. Curious maths...make the cut in a Major and have my best finish in a month...go down 4 spots in the WGR. Not a complaint, just a curious observation. Onward! |

Thanks Art. I went back and relooked through it all and actually found an error driven by this having been a Major week. On normal weeks, the WGR points allocated go down as far as this table from the OWGR ( PointsBreakdown) and then each player tying in the lowest position from the table is allotted 1.2 points. So, not everyone gets WGR points during a normal week tournament (depends on strength of field), especially since we have a cut set at 80. I (incorrectly) ran the WGR this week like a normal week and you were just outside of the players getting WGR points for the week.
BUT! I had forgotten that during a Major week, everyone who finishes the fourth round will receive a minimum of 1.5 points. You can see that at the very bottom of the PointsBreakdown table linked above. I have recalculated the WGR and it should now be updated in the spreadsheet. You've moved up 3 spots from 115 to 112.
Hopefully this hasn't ruined all my credibility, but there is still quite a bit of hands-on data manipulation keeping the WGR and FedExCup as it is currently done (Excel). I'm hoping to tackle a more automated (less prone to human error) method sometime in the future, but not sure I have the skillset or will ever have the time.
