Just played and really enjoyed this design. In fact none of your courses have disappointed! [thumbs up emoji!] IMO the course played with great variety on what is quite a tight plot, and the openness allowed the course to "breath". I never felt "pinned in" like on some parkland courses. This was the highlight for me. Interesting use of the waterways and loved 15 with the tree front and center of the green. Like a Lions Mouth template hole but with a tree! Perhaps not too everyone's taste but I thought this added to the slightly quirky nature overall. And 16, 17 & 18 was a great finishing stretch. Well done and good luck in the contest. EDIT: What also impressed me is how the course continued to grow on me. I felt it got better as the round progressed.

I really, really liked this. While I know the backstory behind this I think that plot worked great, and the vistas across the plot were awesome too. Really enjoyed the bunkering and the challenging greens, great job Forrest!

Very interesting course. It does grow on you, the deeper you get into it the better it gets. Hitting down the first I wasn't a big fan of the left fairway edge, it looked a little forced to catch the red fast off the first. The lip along the top of the first green could also do with an additional smoothing. It came alive with the drivable par 4 3rd. A treacherous pin placement being it's defence. A true three shoter on the 8th was nicely done, although the over shadowing on the green was a little off-putting. The split fairway on 12 was OK, but the right side is blind off the tee. The 15th was a fun hole with some strategy required to think ahead. In decent winds I struggled around the back 9 but really enjoyed the environment and my round.

blueblood1995 glad you enjoyed your round. It's definitely a bit of a slow burn on the first two holes as you get settled into the round before things start ramping up on 3. I wanted the course to toughen up a bit from 3 through the tee shot on 8 and then ease back down before tough tee shots on 9 and 10, a breather on 11 and 12, and then we start ramp it back up on 13 and 14 to finally peak with (hopefully) a fun stretch of holes on 15-17 and a smooth ride into the clubhouse at the end. cd06 thanks Charlie. I'll get around to posting the routing nerd pictures for you soon enough. The before and after should be a pretty fun look through for me too as I think there are maybe 3 or 4 holes which play pretty similar between Coyote Peak and Hidden Valley. sandgroper Hey I finally got my first video from you (I think). I've always enjoyed watching your rounds combined with your detailed notes you provide to so many others. I had never thought about the red fast issue on 1 (I'm a lefty) but I see what you're saying now. I'm not sure I follow what you're referencing by the split fairway on 12. I don't have any real split fairway holes. 12 Does have a break in the fairway around 380y off the tee because of elevation change but that area doesn't really come into play.

Oops, sorry I think I meant the 10th, where the fairway is split by water.

It takes mad skillz to hook a splash shot around/through a lion's mouth tree...

Alright now it's time for the routing nerd map and some fun pics to show where this course started to where it is today. This course was originally Coyote Peak by mvpmanatee . It was supposed to be his entry into the WCoD side contest until he forgot that WCoD isn't the Rookie Contest and he posted a beta file for feedback. To his credit, he finished the project anyways and put out a really fun desert course. Enter the parkland contest. I had this great idea to build a masterpiece on Sea Cow's land but GeraldEpee had other ideas and I quickly found myself in a bidding war vs his well funded Alan Parkland Project. Fortunately, mvpmanatee and I go back a long ways to last year's Rookie Contest and our bond of friendship was deeper than Mr Epee's pockets so I was the given the go ahead with my project. As fun projects tend to do with me, what started out as a "let's rip out all of the planting, change the theme to countryside, shift the lighting around and create a bunch of tree lined golf holes" quickly morphed into "hey I've completely rerouted the course, blown up many of the holes, built all new greens and bunkers, and added in a lake and creek system but don't worry because I left your clubhouse the same...ok actually I lied I added another building on there at the end so I could have people out on the balcony watching the golf." So here is a before and after of the results (hole numbers below reference Hidden Valley): Obligatory routing nerd map (s/o @ryanjmcconnel and grovey31 ) View behind 11 green/12 tee looking out across the property View from 12 green looking across the property towards clubhouse. From left to right you can see 8 fairway, 6 green, 7 green, 13 green, 18 tee shot, and 17 fairway approach into 16 green view from behind 15 green with a look at WhatAboutAmeobi 's favorite tree now known as Wayne's Birch 10 green 14 green with 18 and clubhouse in the distance

The routing change from the original design is awesome. I never loved my own routing and you made a very interesting routing out of the same plot of land. I love what you did to 12(now 3) and I love the back to back par 5s on the front. A lot of cool stuff here. Your lighting & textures pops so much more than mine did too. I definitely dropped the ball there.
