I've not designed through spring and summer, but started up again with something too passionate to be safe for my sanity. My local golf bud and I play a course with one of the finest newly designed back nines in the entire area, but it is unfortunately married to a front nine that is pure mid century municipal crap. It just so happens that the area adjacent to the newest nine is totally undeveloped farmland and dirt bike track and wilderness. It looks to be something meant for later development. No doubt some garbage cookie cutter houses. It's been 10 years though, and nothing yet. We decided to make it a worthy second nine to what is in existence. Our goal...use the Lidar, satellite images, trespassing photography, and possible drone footage to create the holes. We are striving to do absolute minimal elevation work, use accurate trees (or lack of trees), and be as frugal as we can. Of course there is a .0001% chance if we ever show this to the real membership that it would ever come to fruition, we are treating it as if it's a real plan to create this course.
The challenge is to accurately re-create the holes we know as exact as possible, and to carve nine new ones out of the land that can fit in with the existing nine and also push the envelope of what is possible. The front nine of the our course will be the existing back nine, just slightly re-routed, and the back nine of our course will be brand new.
I give you the first shots of the new Eastwood Golf Course in Rochester MN. Full disclosure, I'm behind on posting. We are far into this already

This is very cool. I hope you are able to implement your idea 100%. I certainly don't, but I understand the importance of succeeding at something you really enjoy and setting important goals for yourself! By the way, my friend and I also play golf) Every Friday, we grab our brand new bikes from Simple Bike Insurance, grab our clubs, and head out to the golf course. In fact, it's how we spend our time without our wives and also keeps us physically fit! I'm happy to spend my free time with a friend this way, and on the weekends, get together and have a beer together!
