Hi guys! I want to pick your minds on this shot in the game. I know what a punch shot is, but I rarely use it playing the game.
My question is...When do you use it in the game and approximately how often do you use it in a round?
Maybe I am missing something that I need to be using more.

thegolfclubgame.com/2014/06/08/gameplay-video-punch-shot/This covers its usage pretty well Bottom line is if you stay in the short grass you shouldn't ever need it. They're horrid shots to judge both in terms of carry and rollout and can easily go badly wrong. I think I've played maybe half a dozen in my whole TGC career, if that.

Tried it from 90 m once, because of bad lie under a tree... It went about 135 yards, never used it since.

I've used it maybe 2 or 3 times, it's pretty much useless in this game

The only use for me is when you need to go through trees if you can't go over them. You also have to prey you've got a big wide open fairway all the way to the green to stand a chance of it being successful!

Agreed with most here. The only time I use it is for a tool when you are deep in trees or you have to keep the ball very low and you are trying to get it back out to the fairway. Do not expect to be able to use it with any type of distance accuracy, especially if you are aiming for the green as it will travel a lot further than what the yardage suggests. It has its uses but it is rare.

I use it with the driver sometimes. Say full driver is too long off the tee but I want to get as close to then end of the fairway that I can. Drier punch works nicely here.

I'm on Web tour, but hoping for an exemption to play the PGA next week (fingers crossed). So anyways, I am playing the Cairn Orchard course. I used your ghost Andrew, a.k.a. MrSourNinja, so let me get to something I found that probably isn't useful, but I found interesting.
On hole 5 of the 2nd round I found the rough off the tee with a tree all overhead everywhere and 99 yards to the green 23 feet uphill. Bunkers everywhere guard the front of this green. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't hit anything up in the air at all. A punch or pitch out sideways were my two options.
Well I selected the LW punch shot. It shows 104 yards carry. I delofted it all the way down and saw a 170-something% shot. Well, I figured this was a low burner, so at worst I hit those bunkers in front, but maybe I hit the bank of rough in front of the green and hop up on the green. To be honest, I had no idea what to do. I was thinking bogey would be a good score for hitting it where I did. So I hit this fully delofted LW out of the rough (light), and it went over the green on the fly, into a place between holes in rough 45 yards past the hole.
This long story has a point that if you are in the the rough with a totally overhanging tree and have fairway to work with, look to the wedges for a totally delofted punch shot. It goes out like crazy.
To finish my above story, I was now 45 or so from the green in a 82-86% lie with a tree not totally blocking my path, but impeding me. I had to aim left and draw a pitch a box and a half to the left to try for the hole. I got to a decent distance to the hole and saved par. I so wish I had that one recorded to share.
