I’m happy to share my CC Contest entry, Gray County Golf Course. Inspired by a drive west on I-40 and the wild natural land movement of flyover country, this course is set east of Amarillo in the plains of the Texas panhandle. Design elements include: - Driveable par 4 — hole 4
- Par 3 > 230 yards — hole 6
- Blind tee shot — hole 9
- Total length < 6900 yards
Other things no one asked for but you’re getting anyway: - No stakes — with no water in play and no OB there will be very few penalty strokes here.
- Par 69 — par 5s are kind of silly with the modern golf ball. That said, this course still has two of them.
- A dry creek bed
- Manipulated tees
As a new designer (this is my first 18-hole publish), I look forward to and appreciate any feedback. Big thanks to the folks running and judging the contest! I was excited to get an entry and really enjoyed working on this project. Pictures with yellow boxes in them:

This course is a little rough around the edges, but it's a hell of a lot of fun! Really enjoyed the round and the greens played very well. Good work!

I played the course last week on like Thursday if you want to go to the VOD to see my play through. Coles Notes is that it needs a bit of work... I think you might have confused this one with another course. I published this course on Saturday. That said, this course may need a bit of work, too 😝

I am way confused, dude :-) I was hoping to make a course that would get in the golfer’s head and introduce doubt as they’re standing over the ball. It’s music to my ears to hear that this course has you way confused before you’ve even played it. 😀

I played this last night without reading the course description and my first thought was "The simplicity of it reminds me of a lot of small town courses from West Texas up through the Oklahoma panhandle. I'm also kind of in love with the land scaring used to create faux bunkers." So to come into your thread and see you were inspired by the TX/OK Panhandle made me happy. Last year we drove from Dallas up to Colorado for the first time since I was a kid and the drive from Dumas, TX to Campo, CO had my golf design pants going crazy looking out the window at some of the rock outcroppings and land movement amongst a lot of farmland. It's a lot of poor soil up there but you can find areas of loamy/sandy soil where a low maintenance buffalograss course could absolutely survive on a low maintenance water budget. Keep up the great work tpcsouthnine.

I echo mctrees, this is a fantastically weird course with all the quirkiness in all the right places. Was really fun to play

Q I’m glad to hear you enjoyed your round and the course’s quirk! @mctrees02 It’s great to hear that the landscape read as west Texas and panhandle. It took a while to figure out how to capture that look in the game, and while I’m not sure I nailed it, I was pretty happy with it in the end. Also, it sounds like we had similar experiences driving through that part of the country. Your buffalograss idea is a cool one — love the idea of drought-tolerant, low-input turf.

Finally got to play this on my own. Great course man! This isn't just a "good course for s frist 18" it's a really good course and it being your first 18 makes it that much mroe impressive. There are some sneaky sophisticated startegy elements used here. Also the modest of the environment is used as part of it's charm really well. Good job!
