Really loved the look and the framing you did for your tee shots on this course. Not sure if there was real world inspiration but it reminded me of an area of BC near Jasper. This is less of a critique and actually meant as a compliment but your course is quite safe. I’m assuming you’re a newer designer who’s done some homework. There’s definitely a tendency for people to go a bit wild when they start out instead of getting the basics down first. This is just a solid course with no glaring problems. Green sizing and bunker sculpting could use a bit more consistency but weren’t bad by any means. The only real downside is there’s not a whole lot of real standout holes one way or another. The aiming market for the blind tee shot on 14 was a nice touch though. Definitely think you have the skills to go a bit bolder with your next course.

I agree. Solid course. Nothing flashy or fancy, good hole designs, framing was good, greens played well. Not sure about the bunkers as I didn’t hit any even with some tempo issues and the greens were pretty mild. Would be interesting to see them in some different conditions (firmer, bit faster). Definitely have the basics of the tools done, will be looking forward to the next when you take some chances. Good job figz!

Not really any inspiration, I kind of just ran with an idea I had. Yes, I've only been designing about 6ish months so I wanted to make sure I had the basics nailed down before I try to really attempt something bold. The feedback you mentioned really helps so thank you again!

I set the conditions pretty soft just because I thought it would fit with the moody setting. Now that I feel that I truly have the basics down, I'm going to get much bolder with the next one!

Like the moody look! Couldn’t find the course though. hmmm that's weird, it should be there now if you couldn't find it before.

Really enjoyed this course, @figz. I suspect it would've done quite well in the CC contest too. Hopefully catcherman22 gives this a look for next season. I took a few more pictures for you. Would love to see the routing marked up on my last picture as it flowed really well. I loved how 13 went into the corner of the plot and then everything worked well back to the house. The 17/18 overlap was (seen in pics 2 & 3) was particularly well done.

I played your course and it was a really solid track. The moody lightning was really successful in my opinion. Some of the holes lacked some uniqueness, but you clearly stated you wanted to hammer down the basics of the designer, which you did. The slopes and sculpting were 100/100, A+. I thought holes 17 and 18 were the most interesting in terms of layout, and I think you can definitely spice things up on your next design. I really liked the simple planting, thought it looked great. I wasn’t a fan of those long windy bunkers on the par 3s, but just my personal taste and certainly didn’t take away from the course overall. If you look at McKenzie bunkering, he often gives the illusion of a huge bunker, but they are actually many bunkers strategically layered together to give that visual effect of a giant bunker area. Great track!

Feedback like this really does fuel my ability to get better as a designer so I really appreciate it again!

Also the extra pictures look amazing thank you for those as well, way better than a ps4 screen shot LOL. Routing pic below for you. I really just went with a simple design, not designing for that long I wanted to make sure I had all the basics down so I think I'm ready to get a little bolder for the next one.
