Hi guys.
Question from me surround loft on higher clubs.
On the 5 wood/3 wood, adding loft to the shot doesn't affect shot percentage in terms of distance if there is no wind. So if I hit a 5 wood and add loft to the first red line, it still says 100%
However, if I am hitting down wind or into wind, will lofting the club have an effect?
For example, if I'm hitting into a 5mph wind, and I add loft to the shot to make it go higher, will the ball go less distance than if I'd hit it normal? Would I benefit from reducing loft on wood shots into wind?
If I have a tailwind and add some loft, will the ball actually travel further because the wind has had more time to take the ball?
Would the same principles apply to clubs lower down, say an 8/9 iron?
Thanks.

You pretty much have the concept down. When using it on irons, people will often use them to help reduce the amount of roll out on the green. For example if you are 170 out but have a really a short landing area, people might loft up a 3 or 4 iron to have it where when it lands, it won't roll as far and thus have a better chance to stay on the green.
For woods, loft doesn't really affect the distance to land so much but lofting up will cause the wood to roll less after it lands. Delofting a wood will cause the wood to lose a little distance as it lands, but it will roll further after it does.

Thanks guys.
So on 3/5 wood, if I lofted up to the second red line, it will still travel the same distance, but just roll less? (assuming there is no wind). However, if there is a wind, let's say a tailwind, the ball will actually travel further than stated, because of the wind?
If there is a headwind, I'm assuming the ball will be affected more if I loft up, compared to when I just left it at it's standard loft?
Thanks again.

Yes, yes, but the amounts are something I have never really noticed. I just know playing on the challenge club where you are hitting woods into the par 3s.. I loft up on a 5 wood and I travel about 30 feet less on the green

Thanks, guess I really just need to get on a course with some long par 3's and give it a practice in different conditions and see what happens!
I'm more worried about how the wind will affect the ball when lofted, compared to standard loft, but get what you're saying about hitting woods into greens, I always wondered how people could stop them much quicker than me!

I am the king of loft and you seem to be getting the idea.

Hi guys just got my tour card ? but have started really struggling ? this is something that has always troubled me in this game loft and de-loft. Am I right in thinking that adding loft should stop the ball quicker less roll and de-loft will allow more roll. If so my game is screwed because it's back to front

Idk about your game. Join the club, an keep at it ...try that par 3 hard 9 hole course : Long Pond ...dont worry were the ball gos(an yes,I've been were places search an rescue are needed lol) just mentally note the difference then aka restart game an try the loft up more, I'm still yet to figure out how to play with mulligans, saves all the restarting practice, practice

no mulligans in the game but you can rewind shots when playing a course in the course creator. you could auto generate or just lay down a few basic holes and practice that way, increases green speed and fairway firmess to practice holding the greens.
