Just wanted to share a couple early sneak peeks at my entry into the "unofficial" Parkland/Golden Age contest. I am leaning into the parkland side of things, as I've already done template holes as part of my "Charleston Muni Redesign" RCR. I feel this game could use more "realistic" kinds of courses that are similar to the ones you can find all around the US and are similar to ones used on the PGA Tour (but maybe with a bit more architectural interest!). I have a name/potential theme, but I'll wait to share that on another day. There's still a long way to go in terms of planting and layout. But I'm really liking how things are progressing!

what kinda trees you usin? A mix of quite a few...but mainly ash, elm, pine, spruce, and cedar. Plus a couple others tossed in there for good measure.

Well, the time has come to share the name and theme for my parkland contest course:
The course was inspired by the fact that the Texas Rangers baseball team has a branded golf course in real life. I wanted to make a branded course for my team, the Chicago Cubs.
The bricks and ivy refer to the Cubs home ballpark, Wrigley Field. The walls at Wrigley are made of brick, and covered with ivy. Wrigley was built in 1914, and is the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.
Since the Cubs are a historic team that plays in a historic building, I wanted to give the course a historic feel, taking some inspiration from golden age designers like A.W. Tillinghast. Yet, it needs to have a broad appeal, and I am aiming for a course that is realistic and would be accessible and challenging to golfers of all skill levels.
Look for The Bricks & Ivy Club to open for play later this month!
