This will be my US open entry and will be fun and challenging. You will need to play more than once to get the hang of your approach shots as you'll need some shape on many of them to get into position for a putt.
I'm going to move my updates here and give a hole by hole breakdown and help just cause I can. If you are on PC and would like to test out the course as I go please let me know. I won't let everyone...but I do need a few.
Hole 1 - Long par 4 to start you off. The drive will not be too bad unless there is massive wind. This is all about your approach and work around the green. The approach will be between 205 and 185 depending on your drive usually. You will not want to aim right at the pin. Come at it from left or right with some loft or you'll pay the price. If you want to land on the front and let it run up that's fine but you'll have a long breaking putt for bird.
Hole 2 - medium par 4 (like 460...so...medium long I guess). The drive is tight but not too bad. DONT MISS RIGHT or your dead meat. 2nd shot will again require some thought. If you want the best chance at birdie play to the right with a draw and land on the front of the green. Let the slope do it's thing and you'll be fine. If you aim dead at the flag...you'll probably go off the back a little.
Hole 3 - shortish par 5...but could be 3 shot depending on the wind. If you have the wind or it's not TOO bad then go over the trees on the right to a far fariway and you'll have a 5 wood/3 iron 2nd shot. If you can't then you'll need to go left and you better thing hard about what club to use from the tee as the fairway slopes away from you towards the far bunker. The green has a dropoff to the right...but isn't too hard to putt.
Hole 4 is the first par 3. It's not long but the front right pin placement can be tough as it's easy to go long or lose the shot to the bunker on the right. Loft it up and land on the front edge or play a fade... you'll likely have a downhill putt...so hold your horses.
Hole 5 - This is a little bit of fun for everyone! IF you have the wind then go ahead and go for the green if you want too...but beware...if you go over the back you may have a lot tougher pitch shot than you really want. My suggestion is to play a 3 or 5 wood and then carefully pitch to a green that is sloped all over... it's not unfair... I've played it from every angle and it's fine...but you will clench your butt cheeks a bit.
Hole 6 is a longer par 3 but plays downhill. You'll want to shape your shot right to left and land on the front tier. The middle tier is the highest so you could run off the back if you carry it too far. Play short and you'll like it better.
Hole 7 - longish par 4. again if you have some wind or no wind at all you can try to go to the left. It will make your 2nd shot a LITTLE shorter...but it has it's own risks. I'd play to the right. That will leave you with a 4 iron approach. be careful with this one.
Hole 8 - this one is a par 5 for members. LONG par 4. Drive is fairly tight but the 2nd shot is the hard part. Play a fade and use the green to get close. I've eagled this one so it's possible.
Hole 9 - pretty easy drive. Don't mess with the bunker on the left unless you have a serious tail wind. Again your approach will need a shape to it. runoff area to the left of the green.
Hole 10 - put the driver away unless you have a big tailwind and can play a fade. My suggestion? 5 wood... 2nd shot is to a TEENY green with some issues around it. This one will test your wedge game so hold on.
Hole 11 - This one may change...but the tee shot will take a little thought as you'll have a bunker right in the middle of all creation. 2nd shot isn't too bad...but you probably won't be within 10 feet.
I think this next one will end up being hole 14...but we'll see. It's just a lovely little par 3 for everyone to enjoy...unless you're above the hole...or in the bunkers...yeah...
