just wanted to give this thread a bump and let everyone know that i published a beta of this project that i'm not embarrassed to share.
you can find it under the name lively pickle
at this point i would consider the course itself fully playable. i still need to do a lot of work on the clubhouse (it's a complete mess right now) and make the background planting presentable, but otherwise it's in good shape i think. i'm considering re-planting the water hazards as i feel i may have overplanted those. but if anyone thinks they look good as they are, let me know because that's one less thing i have to do before publishing.
i'm pretty happy with all 4 pin placements, but i think #1 is a solid option for anyone looking to get a sense of what these green complexes can offer. pinset #4 is the most difficult imo. pinsets #2 and #3 are a bit easier than 1&4, but there's some real good placements in those too. some of these greens have 6-8 really solid placements, so it was really tough to choose only 4.
be sure to crank the wind up to high or very high. it was blowing southwest when i played the course irl, but this is an excellent out-and-back layout, so any wind shifts can completely change hole-to-hole strategy every time you play. seems this macdonald guy who designed it really knew what he was doing.
as far as tees go, if you're a loser like me and using clubs that match your real-life distance (250-260 carry), use the greens or the reds. for those who insist on using a driver that drops regular 300-yard bombs, then use the black tees (i extended a few holes with new teeboxes that do not exist irl).
i'm hoping to publish a final version under the real name sometime in the next week. so get your feedback in now, folks! object meter is just under 79% and file size is at 88.2%, so i've got some headroom to work with.

i still need to do a lot of work on the clubhouse (it's a complete mess right now) Here's a pic of what I came up with back when I was working on it, I was pretty happy with it. Still needs the pointed eaves on the backside like the real photo, but the white concession tents over the windows and the brick pillars work wonders on the flat roof parts. I still have the file, I could email it to you if you want to see what I used and tweak yours at all. Also, the only other thing I noticed when flying over yours was that the windmill could stand to be buried some so that the balcony part is closer to the ground. It felt like it was a lot taller and thinner in game than it looks in real life.

i would love to see the what you used and how you put it together. i think i'm generally on the right track and have a footprint that i think can work, but still have some problems to solve with the facade and roofline, and based on that image i think it would be really helpful. i'll DM you details about the file exchange.
excellent call on that windmill, too. i placed it waaaaay back before i learned how useful burying things can be and haven't given it a second look. although now that you've encouraged a second look i'm tempted to see if i can build an exterior around it that looks more like the real thing... i haven't fired up the designer to try stuff out, but i think i might be able to make something work with retaining walls, outhouses, and some other odds and ends.
there's one other object on the course that i'm stumped on: the covered bell on top of the ridge behind the #3 green. if i can get it to look right i think it would be a nice touch of detail. here's an image:
i can use vertical posts for the legs (i've abandoned the idea that i can get them angled inward like the real thing), but the cross-braces and the little shingled roof have me stumped. i was hoping to use the wooden stakes under the markers section for the cross braces since they don't have to be placed vertically, but they are a bit too small and weirdly they eat object meter like crazy.
it might be something that just isn't included in the final version and that's ok. but if you or anyone else has any ideas i'm all ears.

Top of one of the powerlines maybe? It has that cross brace structure but may be too big for what you're going for. A shelter would probably work for the roof. I dunno, I'll play around with some stuff when I get home and see if I can come up with anything.

I dunno, I'll play around with some stuff when I get home and see if I can come up with anything. unfortunately the powerlines are too big. i might be able to mess around with the telephone poles to get something that looks passable though. here's an alternate photo with a person for scale (still low & wide angle photo tho so it looks larger than it actually is):
overall it's a minor detail, so i don't have an issue scrapping it if nothing works.
also, i took a stab at making the windmill look more like the real thing. sunk it down below the door, wrapped the bottom in red canvas wall, and covered the top in a mix of outhouses, wood stairs, and wood walls. i think the top area works. unfortunately i don't think the canvas walls work so i'll probably remove them. they are just too tall:
if i sunk the thing down so the walkway was at the right and the canvas walls were only one panel high, then the blades of the windmill would basically be on the ground and that'd be a weird look.

Played the beta, really enjoyed it, when are you looking at publishing?

Is this published? I see a National Golf Links of America (L) but wanted to be sure it was the right one before playing it

(and yes, the one you found is the correct one)

Any chance this course gets ported to 2K23? Such a great course and a marvelous rendition in 2K21.
