"Founded in 1916, Meadowbrook Country Club is one of the oldest clubs in Southeast Michigan. Originally designed by Willie Park, Jr, it consisted of just 6 holes and 125 acres. Now, with over 180 acres and remodels done by storied architects such as Donald Ross, Meadowbrook remains one of Detroit’s elite clubs." - Meadowbrook Course History
Meadowbrook has a long history, including playing host to the 1955 PGA Championship. It also hosted several PGA Tour events between the late 40's and early 60's. Until recently, however, it suffered the fate of many Golden Age courses, slowly falling into a forgettable state.
After seeing the Fried Egg feature on the 2017 remodel of this course, though, done by Andy Staples, I knew I had to check it out.
"Initially a six hole track designed by Willie Park Jr. and built in 1916, with additional work done by Donald Ross in the mid-1930’s, Meadowbrook County Club assuredly has a rich history. As is the case with most courses of this age, significant course upgrades are inevitably needed to adjust for technological advances in both playing equipment and course maintenance. With substantial input and overwhelming support by the MCC membership, “The Centennial Plan” focused on restoring this course to its inaugural glory while embracing modern course architecture. Having re-opened in May of 2017, this project lays the economic and operational groundwork for the Club’s next 100 years." - Andy Staples Golf
With the help of several members reaching out and providing feedback on betas, I've come as close as I can to recreating this course without actually seeing it in person (that won't happen until June).
In addition to the great views across the entire plot, the greens are far and away the star of the show here. They are incredibly fun to play! To maintain the intent and playability of the greens, setting green speeds above the default level are discouraged.
I won't waste anymore words here. Simply go play it!

I hate the lag in getting courses to show up...it's not showing on PS4 yet. SOON!

Another Detroit course from CLV? Well don't mind if I do. What you planning next locally?

These greens are no joke, damn. And most of the fairways are pretty smooth and then there’s the one on the front 9 that’s just 1 giant lump of dirt. Lol. Like someone (not you) forgot to smooth that one out. But it’s a really nice course, had fun playing it. Great work as usual, sir.

I'm at a stage where I might publish a dozen more courses, or I might not publish any. Things are a little up in the air right now. But most of the plots floating around on my computer right now are local. For metro Detroit I have Indianwood, Franklin Hills, and Orchard Lake. I also have a smattering of up north courses.
But yeah, no idea exactly what is next.

The architect discusses that hole (#5) at about the 3 minute mark in the video. Before the renovation I believe a hole generally ran around that piece of land instead of over it, so all of that movement was covered in trees. When they opened it up, the members didn't even know it had been there.

Been lucky enough as a Steam friend to follow along with the betas - can't wait to give the full version a go.

Here's a little video tour of the course that I put together:
So here's a short backstory. I understand that the video capture isn't amazing, but that wasn't really the point of this. I haven't done any serious video editing since college, 2005, doing educational documentaries (editing basketball tape doesn't count, totally different software). My goal here was to fly a virtual "drone" to see what kind of shots I could capture, and to see if I was capable of actually putting an edit together that made any kind of sense.
If you feel inclined, please let me know what I did well and what I need to improve on, other than the aforementioned shoddy video capture.
I have a lot of stuff to learn, but it was nice to finish something and post it on youtube. Stayed tuned for my journey, which hopefully I will be able to share soon!

Giving this a bump. Currently playing in Beer League. It’s a ripping track. One of those simply fun courses to play with plenty of undulation and angles. Highlights for me are the greens and the colour contrast between fairway, light rough and heavier grasses. Has character. One of the very best RCRs I’ve played.

Heavy Rough 5
I think the grasses were mostly 3, 4, and 5 here. It's hard to remember, been quite a few years since I put this one together.
