Hideki - National Treasure Contest Entry

Hideki is my entry into the 2021 National Treasure contest in which I was picked to build a course that best represents the country of Japan. The name "Hideki" was chosen to honor Japan's first ever Master's Champion Hideki Matsuyama. The course is designed to play tough but fair in most conditions. Most of the 18 holes were built to provide safe landing areas for most players while still challenging the approach shot into the greens. Due to the wider than average fairways the course does not provide light rough for errant tee shots. All pin placements are challenging on the fast and firm default settings. Be careful on which side of the hole you chose to play as you make your approach. The wrong choice or an errant shot will often leave you with a longer and more difficult putt.

Enjoy your stay at the hotel that offers entertainment on the top floor. A pool, hot tub, and a 3-deck driving range are all part of the amenities. Please take a free drop if your ball happens to land on any of the wintertime greens. This course is best played in default weather conditions (overcast). Yeah, this is awesome. Hole 6 and Hole 10 tee shots were so cool I would play it over and over again just to play those holes.. Planting was perfect, and the holes fit in so well within the elevation changes of the land. This is my favorite so far and will be tough to beat imo but hey I'm not a judge.

Easily my favorite publish from you. On the very first tee I thought, "Damn. He nailed it." The planting was on point, and the environment in general was great. The course played well, and I didn't spot anything that took me out of the immersive experience. You definitely brought heat to the contest bro! Well done!

Thank you for doing double greens! Double greens are a dieing breed; they are currently being removed left and right in Japan as new technology has rendered them obsolete (as of 2017 less than 37% of japanese courses have double greens, probably even less now) . It's nice to have a course that remembers the most prolific Japanese Golf Architect, Seiichi Inoue, and his obsession with double greens

Excellent course and I have to agree - you nailed the brief. The default weather set it off too. Love the mix of conifers, specimen trees and topiary and the plantings and placement of paths, bridges, etc. - definitely a Japanese vibe. The layout was very good and I think Hideki would be honoured. I was so busy looking around I let my score slide a bit. Best of luck for the design contest.

Great job! Loved the planting and the environment. Golf course was tough, definitely had to put the ball in the right spots on the fairway and the greens. And that drivable 4 at the end is a total bait job...lot of risk reward on that. Well done

What a ChrizZcE style opening stunner. Immediately put me in Japan and it continued throughout. From the custom trees to the planting around the creeks and lakes, it looked really well done. Congrats on a really fun course sir.
