From Anthony:
This week we’ve really been looking at the future of The Golf Club, things that we can do past the May update in the short term and the long term. Things like Greg Norman Course Designer improvements, more themes, an API to help fan sites, etc. The team have as many ideas as you guys, so imagine how much we have to get through. Every round we play, even every shot we play, we come back with more ideas. It’s a great place to be in though, with so much still to do on our wish list we look like we’ll be busy way into the future.
There’s always a debate and everyone has strong views, so you can imagine it gets quite heated but it’s always productive and we come out with solutions that keeps the game progressing in the right direction. It’s such an exciting environment to work in and really encouraging to see the team even after 2 years of development still hungry to improve it.
Devon’s provided me with a screenshot of the drop ball stuff he’s been working on, see below. It shows the reticule you’ll get when you go out of bounds to drop the ball to. There are a lot of little edge cases with this stuff that means it takes a little more time than it would seem it should but it’s a great addition to the game and one that you guys have been calling out for a while.
Future - Near and Far - drop screen
Mitchell and Bryan have put the finishing touches to the other user profiles screens, this new screen will allow you to see the stats, scores and saved replays from other users. It’s a great little feature, giving you the ability to save your favourite shots to see again or let the world see.
Future - Near and Far - profile
Devon has also been working on the issue people are having with the power on the shot being reduced. What we believe is happening is that as frame rate changes between courses the swing tempo you have become accustom to on one course changes and causes the issue. What we’re going to do is create a more granular input mechanism from the mouse or gamepad. This will take away the unexpected loss of power and at the same time increase your ability to hit 30,40,50 percent shots.
Finally, just in case you missed it. We announced our new community manager this week. Keith, formally known as The Headhunter on the forums, will be with us helping to manage the forums, Twitter, Facebook and Twitch as well as helping us spread the word more. He’s going to have to take on a lot of information in the next few weeks so cut him a bit of slack in the short term if he’s a bit slow getting back to you as he’ll be chasing me for certain information before he can respond.
