I play in the Beer League and I am playing in the tournament on the Grand Lakuna course. Has anyone who plays this tournament had any freezing problems during your play? I have in all my practice rounds and the 1st 2 rounds of the tournament, luckily it hasn't cost me any strokes. Was the tournament director aware of this? Just wondering.

This course is giving my XBox Series X fits at the 60Hz vsync setting, where I normally have no problem maintaining 60 FPS. I'm getting a lot of shimmering and stutter at Grand Lakuna, and as you've said, a lot of lengthy freezes. Fortunately so far, none of the freezes have come during a swing, but I get a lot of them when I'm just seeing the new address position display and I'm trying to rotate to change my aim. The image is just frozen for like 3 or 4 seconds. Once I am able to pan to change aim, I get a lot of shimmering from objects in the distance.

Thanks for the response, why wouldn't whomever picked this course notice these problems and if so why not change the course. I guess the Beer League gets just what it's name implies.

I'll have to give this course a go on my XBox One X to see if it plays any differently. It seems like I've heard that the 3 to 4 second freezes are remedied by setting vsync back to 30Hz, but after experiencing this game's swing at 60 FPS, who wants to go back to 30? You haven't had a freeze occur during a swing have you? I know I haven't, but I did have a ball freeze in midflight for 3 or 4 seconds later today. I wish they had included an option to also simply turn the vsync OFF in this game. For XBox Series X and Series S owners who also own a VRR capable display, that would get rid of the shimmering and stutter we now occasionally experience, without introducing screen tearing.

I tried setting it to 30 fps and did a practice swing but it was too choppy. It did freeze during my backswing while putting and it froze while the ball was in flight.I still can't understand why the course was put on our tour.

The scheduler Dan catcherman22 plays in the Beer League himself so I imagine great care is put into the selection of courses for the Beer League. Perhaps you could volunteer to be a Ranger and then you would be able to advise of any XB issues prior to the course being selected.

First I’ve heard of any issues It sounds like it might only manifest itself on Series X's and possibly S's. I've seen the shimmering/stuttering problem on three courses on my Series X, Grand Lakuna being the most glaring example. I still haven't tried the course on my One X, but I'll get around to it today sometime I hope. What I am noticing on the Series X, and this is now on all courses, is that quite often there will be a 3 or 4 second freeze when changing aim. I'll change the aim and after setting it to a new direction, it will freeze for 3 or 4 seconds before I can actually swing. During the swing I see no hesitancy or hints of freezing, even at Grand Lakuna. I just see more shimmering and stutter during panning and ball flight/roll animation at Grand Lakuna than any other course. Shelter Harbor is another course where I see the shimmering and stuttering, but not quite on the same level as Grand Lakuna. No one is reporting problems with the XBox One, One S, and One X of this sort with Grand Lakuna, so it might just be some quirk with the Series X. I could still play the game just fine with it, but it just looks a bit untidy when the shimmering and stuttering is present.

I find the swing unmanageable on any course at 30 FPS. It's like swinging the club underwater to me. That's why I went to the PC version where my PC was capable of running the game at 60 FPS. Now that the Series X can run it at ~60 FPS (via 60 Hz vsync setting), I'm back on the XBox. I wish we could get HB Studios to comment on these few courses (3 that I've found since the update) where we're getting a lot of shimmering and stutter, but that's not apparently in their purview. Try Shelter Harbor and see if you don't experience the same thing there.

First I’ve heard of any issues So you did not read the TBC thread this week? My issue was not with frame rate as much as unmarked OB a couple of paces off the fairway on a hole and the designer was rather flippant about it. Dusk should not have been used, very dark in lots of places in the first two rounds. That's all there and more in the TBC thread.

SkyBlueBen I have the utmost respect for the job Daniel does in running the Beer League. I know how much of Daniel's own free time it takes in making the Beer League the best that it can be. I only reported what I encountered in playing my rounds at Grand Lakuna. My idea was not to criticize but to report what I experienced and to inform Daniel of what I found. I did report it in a thread on April 6th. It's at the top of this page, and that's all I can do.

I can only suggest that perhaps there is not the time or manpower available to test all the courses on all 3 systems. I've noticed Dan secures some very sought after courses for what is "only" the Beer League.

In Dan’s defense, only four Rangers reported on the course (full disclosure, I wasn’t one of them), and two had issues with default lighting. No mention was made about out of bounds, and the course was otherwise generally liked.

and nothing I can do about the lighting fellas.. our scheduling regulations have us try and use designer intentions for lighting as much as possible.
