My National Treasure course, for now, is going to be inspired by Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park on the north coast of Germany, which is a relatively popular spot. My plan at this point is just to combine different things I've seen in pictures onto one, hopefully cohesive plot. The main obstacle is going to be the grasses and rendering, but I think it's surmountable. Just have to block out the right areas with dunes, plant bushes in the right spots and have enough tree clusters. I also don't know if this is a "German" enough course, but I hope, since this is a decent-sized National Park and not some arbitrary links land, that this setting will still work. As a side question, which I think I can ask because it's a general one that I've always been curious about, what graphics setting do I have to account for when making a course? Can judges be expected to at least look at the course on "high" graphics? What graphics settings do most people play on?

All the judges have to be on original XBoxes so the draw distance is barely off the tee!
Joking aside, you do raise an interesting question. I used to design on an original Xbox where the draw distances were terrible. I'm now on Series S so they are much improved but still nothing like some of the pictures that get posted by those with beast PC's.

I’ve always designed on ultra and tried not to think about it too much. Wouldn’t worry too much as there isn’t a perfect sweet spot.
As for the course, a bit of Budersand Sylt here? That’s always looked like a fun course to me.

Love that Ben mentioned Budersand - definitely have a look at that for some inspiration if you're going with a coastal plot. Kinda seems like you and I both had the same idea to go coastal! The landscapes we both want to create, after all, aren't too different

I also don't know if this is a "German" enough course, but I hope, since this is a decent-sized National Park and not some arbitrary links land, that this setting will still work. Maybe a bit late, but to answer this question: In Germany you can basically find any style of course. Links-style (more a northern thing), open and flat, densely wooded, hilly or a mixture. So your idea definitely can be associated with Germany. For some inspiration: besides Budersand (a good mention by Ben as this is probably one of the most famous links-style courses in Germany) I'd also recommend to have a look at GC Norderney and the inland Links courses Winston Links (hosting a Legends Tour tournament), the Faldo Course at GC Bad Saarow or Rethmar Golf Links. This might gives you an idea of how these type of courses look and are are adapted to the german environment Looking forward to the result. greetings from Germany

I am already kinda tied to the environment, surfaced all 18 holes at this point and planted over half of them. I am glad that you mentioned GC Noderney though. That’s gonna be my reasoning behind doing a dunes course. Also, I just checked out Winston Links, which looks very similar to my course, so thank you so much for pointing that out! The only issue I had with the concept is that I found so many woodlands courses in the top courses list that are more of the traditional style, in terms of bunkering and sculpting, that waste areas felt like an atypical thing for Germany, but I’m glad you think this kind of course could be somewhat representative of Germany. I’ve decided that this course looks like it belongs in the national park I mentioned to the point where it could pass as German (I changed a few things, pics coming soon).

Unfortunately, I think my file may not be recoverable for NT, since it got corrupted. Make sure to back up your files somewhere! Spent upwards of 60-70 hours on it, but I'm going to try making this course again with some of the same ideas and submit it before June 15th, since I do have a lot of free time now. On the positive side, some of the town sections look much better in the new plot I've started and the routing is much tighter. Here's one of my favorite holes I had on the old file in case I can't reproduce it (I had made dunes in the background but don't have a picture of it): Also, I cannot believe how good the new NT courses look and I'm excited to play all of them.

Awwww that’s terrible to hear! I hope you can recreate it in time. Terribly sorry! Good news is the second time around is always faster. That picture looks top notch so I good luck getting it finished! 🙏

Just saw your post above, Alex. Sorry to hear that buddy - that kinda reminds me of the four or five design League plots I started that all crashed and wouldn't let me back into the designer (thanks to my Switch, I need a laptop ffs ). Hope you'll get the time to finish this up - good luck!

I appreciate everyone's condolences about the file being corrupted, lot of wasted time. But this new iteration of this course should hopefully be better. I've been flying through this design, never realized how much of designing was just choosing things. I'm already a little over halfway done and will probably publish around June 1st or so. Anyway, here's a pic of what I have so far:
