Finally, after 3 months of routing, sculpting, play testing, and a sh%$ ton of planting, I am proud to announce the publish of my submission for the 2021 World Cup of Design (alternate).
It is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome you to Rossmackowen (pronounced ROSS-mck-OW-an) Golf Links. Set in the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way in the county of Kerry, Ireland, Rossmackowen Golf Links is a championship caliber 18 hole layout measuring 7266 yards from the back tees and plays to a par of 72. The first nine winds it’s way through massive inland dunes before coming back to the clubhouse. The second nine starts inland and concludes in dramatic fashion along the shore of the river Kerry estuary and Ballinskelligs Bay. Aside from 18 wonderful holes of golf, Rossmackowen Golf Links also offers a first class practice facility for honing your game, a fully stocked pro shop, a 5⭐️ restaurant and bar over looking the bay, and of course loads of that world famous Irish hospitality! We look forward to serving whatever needs you may have and we hope you enjoy your round!
Whew! It’s finally published! I really enjoyed creating this course even though the planting stage was one of the toughest grinds I’ve had to endure in quite some time! I can say without a doubt that this course is the best work I’ve done in the designer so far. My main goals for this course were to a)create a course that doesn’t need fancy planting and lighting to be memorable and b)do justice to the fantastic links style courses of Ireland that unfortunately tend to get overlooked far too frequently when links golf is brought up. The planting scheme for this course is simple, minimal, and (IMO) very natural feeling. I was desperately attempting to mimic the appearance of maram grass blowing in the wind. It was difficult but I think I pulled it off in the end as best as the designer will allow. In terms of difficulty, the course can play both easy and extremely difficult based on conditions. Another one of my goals on this course was to design holes that offer interesting strategy regardless of the wind and/or firmness settings. Recommended settings are for a medium to high SE wind (blowing in off the ocean) with firm fairways and greens. Due to the highlands bug, please make sure to set the terrain firmness setting to high or very high before playing or some of the ground game opportunities will be lost. Default green speed is 155 but they’ll easily take 163 and should be playable (although very, very difficult) at 187. If you’re an absolute psycho, you can set all the conditions to max but prepare to get your ass kicked 😂!
Thanks mayday_golf83 for the opportunity to be a part of this competition and thanks in advance to everyone who gives this one a play. If I’m not needed for the main event, the back nine is the nine I’d like judged for the side contest. Also, for some reason my screen shots aren’t uploading to Xbox live so if anyone has the time I’d really appreciate a few pics to help promote the course. karma4u , I know you’re a busy guy but, if you get the opportunity, I’d really appreciate your expertise here! If you can’t though, no worries. Anyway, thanks again to all the guys that make TGC tours go and everyone else in the community! You guys rock 🤩!
